Mr Draws has had a very good spell of painting, both in terms of productivity and quality of his work. I have always admired his unpretentious approach to finding the joy in his graffiti writing.

This colourful piece is notable perhaps for its enormous black drop shadow, which gets a little lost without reference lines to the protruding points of the letters DRAWS. The fills have great colours and are nicely sone, and he has added a smily face, which he seems to be rather fond of at the moment. An uplifting piece.

This is an interesting wall at the entrance to St Werburghs tunnel. It is a space that can be filled with one or two or even more pieces, because of its length. There is a bit of a difficulty with the full length pieces, like this beauty from Mr Draws, and that is there is quite a bit of street furniture in the way that makes it a little challenging to photograph.

The spot also suffers from shading on sunny days, so being there at the right time is quite important. On the day I took these pictures, it was dazzlingly bright, indicative of the remarkable spring we are enjoying. Mr Draws has written his joined up letters DRAWS with a very nice horizontal striped fill pattern of magenta, turquoise, blue and yellow, which works remarkably well. The letters are broken up with a shower of ‘leopard’ spots, which offer a really interesting texture to the piece. There are some nice drips too. This is a really good large piece from Mr Draws, no messing.

Mr Draws is an artist who never seems to fuss or bluster, rather he goes about his painting in a deliberate and consistent manner, almost like clockwork. Modest and never showy his familiar pieces are part of the fabric of Bristol city.

This is  really nice piece under Brunel Way, with four horizontal colour layers running through the letters DRAWS, the uppermost one of which is dripping, like a chocolate sauce topping. A deep 3D drop shadow separates the letters from a contrasting red background, and the piece is finished with some horizontal yellow and grey oval lines dotted across the piece. A really nice piece from Mr Draws.

By the time this post is published I’ll be somewhere between Bristol and Leeds, on our way to visit our daughter who is in her first term at university there. The upshot of this is that I wrote this post last night after work, a little tired and not particularly inspired. Basically I am making excuses for a waffling post.

Mr Draws represents the constant beating heart of Bristol graffiti writing. I have said it many times and my view hasn’t changed. Regular and dependable. This set of fused DRAWS letters in dark blues has a devilish theme running through it with horns and an inverted cross. I wonder what is going on here. I might need to have words with Mr Draws.

Whales have been quite a common theme in Mr Draws’ artwork, both in the studio and on walls big and small. I guess that these large mammals are representative of the threats and opportunities for our planet, and something I know Mr Draws cares a lot about. This piece combines his writing with nature, a concept I wholly endorse.

The letters DRAWS provide a backdrop for the blue whale character and some greenery. It was painted as part of a Halloween paint jam and there is plenty of symbolism in the piece, where the underlying message is that if you meddle with nature we are walking down the path of doom. Cheery huh? Great stuff from the thoughtful Mr Draws.

I have said it so many times before, but Mr Draws really is one of the most consistent graffiti artists in Bristol, and has been for as long as I have been writing this blog. This is a lovely piece of writing at the entrance to the tunnel and is bright, cheerful and welcoming.

Mr Draws has several different fill styles, and this camouflage pattern is one that he uses a fair bit, although not always as colourful as this one. His curvy letters are propped up with a deep drop shadow, and he has added a peace symbol for good measure. I think we could all do with a bit of peace in the world at the moment. Nice work from Mr Draws.

Mr Draws is one of the most enduring and endearing artists in Bristol. His writing is familiar, albeit unconsciously, to any Bristolian who keeps their eyes open, and has been for several years. This large piece in Cumberland Basin is a cracker, which reminds m a little of a koi carp.

This is a very nice piece of writing from Mr Draws, with his typical letter shapes, a nice deep drop shadow and some nice fills. The gold ‘A’ draws the eye, and I have noticed a few pieces lately that have contained a gold letter… perhaps it is a thing. This is a fine piece from a fine artist.

This wall, although part of the Dean Lane ‘furniture’ was only bricked up and made into one solid wall earlier this year, so in its current form it is a fairly new wall which was first painted by Haka (if my memory serves me correctly). It has now become a popular wall for large pieces of graffiti writing, and this is the turn of Mr Draws.

Mr Draws has been and will always be one of the foundations of Natural Adventures, along with other artists like Face 1st, whose work is consistent, regular and enduring – the heartbeats of Bristol street art. In this tidy piece, the letters are beautifully painted, each one merging into the next, and the fills, with horizontal layers work nicely through the letters. The little white accent lines create a 3D effect, which along with the black drop shadow lift the writing off the wall. Set on a blue patterned background, the piece is another fine contribution from Mr Draws.

I was lucky enough to run into Mr Draws when he was painting this piece at the entrance of St Werburghs tunnel and stopped for a chat with him. We hadn’t seen each other for a while, so it was good to catch up.

The piece itself is typical of his street work at the moment. Bright and colourful, spelling out ‘draws’ and with a bit of a twist, which in this case is a mirror version of his name, and his wobbly outline which he has been favouring recently.

I do like and have always liked his work which is always full of ideas and fun. He may not have the tightness of some of Bristol’s design writers but he is full of creativity and always turns out pieces that are easy on the eye.

I do like Mr Draws. It has been fun following his progress over the last three or so years and seeing his unstoppable enthusiasm for experimentation. His pieces are raw and creative, but not the highly polished design pieces we see from several other Bristol writers.

Mr Draws ploughs his own furrow and will not be intimidated by any nonsensical hierarchy – he just gets on and does what he loves. I caught up with him while he was spraying this unusual piece and he announced that he was going to be moving to Berlin later in the year. I will definitely miss tracking down his work, but I think he will have an amazing time.

This week artists from all over the globe have been finding out whether their applications to paint at Upfest 2018 have been accepted. Mr Draws has made the cut and will be there.
