241. M32 Roundabout, Junction 3 (9)

The thing about popular places for graffiti is that unless you visit them regularly, you will miss something. I left a gap of about four weeks between visits to the M32 roundabout between St Pauls and Easton, and probably about half of the works had changed. I don’t think I am ever going to be able to keep on top of this, but I don’t mind that really, it is just fun making new discoveries each time I venture out.

This is a lovely piece by one of my favourite artists in Bristol – Face F1st. Regular readers will know how much I like this work, so to find this one was a real pleasure. Even better, I found another one on my way to work this morning that appeared over the weekend…posting soon.

I have noticed that the designs in the letters are becoming more elaborate with each piece that Face F1st is producing, but overall the concept remains the same. Great stuff.

220. Drummond Road (1)

On the edge of St Pauls at the Stokes Croft end of Ashley Road, this lovely work by Face F1st complements a PWA collaboration opposite it. Some may consider Face F1st to be a bit of a ‘one trick pony’, as the works are all very similar, with little variation. I, however do not subscribe to this idea. All the faces are beautifully crafted with clean lines and have a distinctive consistency, which is in a way rather comforting in a world of frenetic spraying.

This piece I photographed in March this year, but I also snapped a newer one today during my lunch walk. I always get a bit of a glowing feeling whenever I happen across any of Face F1st’s work.

164. Ashley Road (4)

Anyone who reads this blog regularly will know that I have a real soft spot for Face F1st. Part of the PWA crew (Pirate Wall Art), Face F1st’s pieces are always low-key and often tucked away.

What I like about this piece is the calming image and simplicity in the artwork. Nothing flashy, but a pleasing end result. I have posted another Face f1st piece here.

118. Hepburn Road (1)

I am going to be clear about this. I want to find more pieces by Face F1st. I love the simplicity of the lines. The sentiment of the faces. The cool colours.

I have not been able to find out much about the artist other than that they belong to the PWA (Pirate Wall Art) crew.

This little side street in Stokes Croft is bursting with street art with a very high turnover. There is a lot more to come from here.

71. Wilder Street

It has been a beautiful, cold, blue-sky day today, so I set off for St Pauls to discover some of the street art I haven’t yet seen. There is so much in the area and I really only scratched the surface. There appear to be a few crews who work the area, and there is an even spread of commissioned work, permitted work and illegal spraying.

This wall in particular caught the eye. It was painted in early June 2012 by the PWA Crew (Pirate Wall Art). The crew includes Face F1st, Soap, Drest, Sikoh, Luvm and Meta. It will take me a while to work out who paints what in this crew, but the angel face, top left, is by Face F1st and the top right face is by Drest.

What I particularly like about this mural is the beautiful floral patterning that appears on all four elements. I look forward to uncovering more of their stuff.

59. Stokes Croft, the Carriageworks (1)

This building and its immediate neighbours are arguably the most painted walls in Bristol. Artwork is over-sprayed weekly or sometimes more frequently. You have to be quick if you want to photograph any of it, and some of it is really good.

I love this wonderful stencil. I am guessing it is a self-portrait of the artist, but I have no idea who that artist might be. I might have to do some digging around. From the comments below, it would appear to be a piece by Hoax. It is gone now (Jan 2016). Another addition, now in April 2016, I have just noticed a wonderful Face F1st next to the hoax stencil. I am a huge fan of Face F1st.
