I saw an awful lot of street art and graffiti writing in Leicester on a work trip to the city last month, and I have had to be quite selective on what I have selected to post. This piece by Annatomix might not be one of the best pieces I photographed, but I have a soft spot for her work, and the subject matter, a fox, is representative of the city of Leicester.

Annatomix is know for her representations of wildlife that resemble a folded paper model, recreated in her artwork. It is a style that she has perfected and made her own. There is a crispness and accuracy to her work that is admirable, and her ability to create a completely believable image of something that we can imagine, but that doesn’t exist is remarkable. A lovely piece and fond memory of my trip.

On a recent work trip to Leicester, I was fortunate enough to have a little over an hour early in the morning before meeting up with colleagues to wander around the streets. I met a very nice man called Cameron who showed me around the best spots, which probably saved me a great deal of time.

My visit also happened to coincide (utterly unplanned) with Leicester’s ‘Bring the Paint’ festival. Unfortunately, it was the first day of the festival and no new pieces were yet painted. What I do have though is a good record of the pieces that were at the end of their lifespan and were due to be painted over. This extraordinary piece by Smug was not being painted over, thankfully.

This is an iconic piece by Smug, and one that I had seen all over social media, but hadn’t ever registered where it was located, so coming across it in Leicester was an absolute bonus. There are no words really that would do the piece justice, so I will probably leave it there and just enjoy the memory of one of the best murals I have ever seen.

2804. St Werburghs tunnel (155)

Another sensational piece from visiting artist Creks in St Werburghs tunnel. I believe that Creks is from Leicester, but has rather taken to coming to Bristol from time to time to avail himself of our walls, and what a good thing too. I have always said how much I love it when visiting artists come to our city adding to the diversity of street/graffiti art.

I think that this is a particularly appealing piece, very easy on the eye and, as so often happens when a script-style font is used, it stands out from the crowd. I can’t make up my mind whether the yellow flames add to or detract from the piece, on balance I think it might have looked a little better without them – just my opinion though. I really rate this piece and the artist from what I have seen so far. I hope he comes back to visit again soon.
