Thursday doors – 3 July 2025 – Street art doors

Doors 314 – Street art and graffiti doors of Bristol, Manchester, London and Nottingham, February to April 2024

Having completed the marathon of doors from Copenhagen and three weeks’ worth of doors from Leicester, I couldn’t make up my mind what to move on to next, so this week I have decided to go for some street art doors, which combines my love of doors and street art.

These doors were originally posted in February to April last year as part of my street art/graffiti category, but may have been photographed some time before that. I hope you enjoy them. Normal service will resume next time, but I still need to decide what to share next.

That’s it for another week. I prepared this post in advance, and I am publishing it very early (UK time) on Thursday, because when I did this by mistake a few weeks ago, I had far more views than I would normally expect. I am testing the idea once again, but this time deliberately, to see if that was an anomaly or a real effect.

If you have made it this far, you probably like doors, and you really ought to take a look at the No Facilities blog by Dan Anton who has taken over the hosting of Thursday Doors from Norm 2.0 blog. Thursday doors – 9 January 2025 -Street art doors

Doors 291 – Street art and graffiti doors of Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester and Sheffield, November to December 2023

I am on holiday in Marrakesh, lucky me, and so am re-purposing some doors from my street art archives for Thursday doors, because I don’t have access to my home PC. Of course I am collecting dozens of Moroccan doors to share with you later in the year.

Today’s doors were originally posted in November and December 2023, but may have been photographed some time before. I hope you enjoy them. Normal service should resume next time.

Doors 278 – Doors of Nottingham (Part III), UK, March 2024

Good morning. This is the final selection – the leftovers, if you like – of doors from a visit to Nottingham back in March this year. There is no theme, just doors which took my fancy. All of the doors photographed in this series were captured during a one hour stroll from my hotel to the office where we were holding a team meeting. One of the reasons that I don’t mind travelling around the country for meetings is that sometimes I get to stay over and get a chance to photograph doors and street art, making the best of things.

I’m off to London on Monday, but I’m not sure I will get time to take any pictures, I have quite a tight schedule. Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy this last selection from Nottingham. Next time another city, another set of doors.

Thursday doors – 12 September 2024 – Doors of Nottingham

Doors 277 – Doors of Nottingham (Part II), UK, March 2024

Last week’s doors of Nottingham seemed to go down rather well. What I like about visiting urban centres in the UK, is there seems to be a lack of uniformity of architecture. Some ancient buildings survived the bombing of the second world war and these are often found cheek by jowl with buildings of multiple periods right up to the modern day. It makes for an eclectic collection of doors (and doorways – as some of the doors have been replaced) through history.

This is an un-themed random set of doors that I encountered in Nottingham back in March this year presented in the order in which I found them. I hope you enjoy them.

I realise that I haven’t been reading and commenting on other people’s blog posts for a couple of weeks, which is a bit rude of me and for which I apologise. I have been ultra-busy, but hope to get back into a rhythm before too long.

Doors 276 – Doors of Nottingham (Part I), UK, March 2024

I missed last week’s Thursday doors, there was simply too much going on, and I ran out of time. I am feeling similarly ragged this morning, so this is going to be a quick one. Many of my Thursday doors collections happen to be tied in with work meetings around the country, when I have to do an ‘over-nighter’. On the day of the meeting I tend to get up early from my hotel, wander around the town or city for an hour or so before joining my colleagues, and it is during this stroll that I get to take photographs. This week I bring you the first of three selections from Nottingham captured in March this year, I hope you enjoy them.

I hope to be a little more organised next time, until then… cheerio.

Thursday doors – 18 April 2024 – Doors of Nottingham

Doors 261 – Doors of Nottingham, November 2023 (Part III)

I am writing this post yesterday on a rather nice LNER train travelling from Peterborough, via London, to Bristol. Of course, I took the opportunity during an overnight stay to find some doors and street art while in Peterborough, but that is not important right now (Police Squad reference).

This is the third and final part of doors from a Nottingham doorscursion I made in November last year. There will be a follow-up series of posts from Nottingham following a visit I made earlier this spring, but I’ll post those in due course.

There are quite a few doors this week, another rather eclectic mix, but that is what happens when you wander aimlessly through a place. I hope you enjoy them.

Thursday doors – 11 April 2024 – Doors of Nottingham

Doors 260 – Doors of Nottingham, November 2023 (Part II)

This week I share some more doors from Nottingham from a work trip I made back in November 2023. I think the fun thing about visiting cities is that there are always so many interesting doors to photograph, which is a good thing, especially as I find it challenging to find new doors from my home city of Bristol. All the doors posted in this three-part series from Nottingham were captured during a one and a half hour walk between the hotel I was staying in and the office.

There are so many curious doors and architectural periods in Nottingham that I was rather spoilt, snapping away to my heart’s content. I hope you enjoy this week’s selection.

Quite an eclectic bunch this week with no theme to connect them, but I quite like that as it gives you a flavour of the diversity of architecture and styles in the city. One more post from this Nottingham  visit to come next week, until then, have a great weekend.

Thursday doors – 4 April 2024 – Doors of Nottingham

Doors 259 – Doors of Nottingham, November 2023 (Part I)

This collection of doors is the first in a series taken from two recent visits to Nottingham, the first in November 2023 and the second in March this year. Funnily enough some of the doors I photographed on my second visit were duplicates of doors from my first – obviously doors of merit.

Nottingham is a wonderful city which has a very positive vibe about it, and which is small enough to not feel oppressive. A university and a modern tram system are always attractive features.

I hope you enjoy this first selection of doors:

5923. Nottingham

Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024
Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024

I have made two visits to Nottingham in the last six months or so, but only found this shutter piece opposite the station, by Kid 30 on the second trip. On the first visit, the shutter had been up. Sometimes visiting city centres on Sundays or light mornings/evenings is the only way to see shutter pieces – I caught this one early in the morning before the shop had opened.

Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024
Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024

In this mash-up piece, Kid 30 has combined the cartoon characters of Cat in the Hat, Homer Simpson (I think), The Pink Panther and Top Cat, seamlessly stitched together in an entertaining way. I am a big fan of Kid 30’s work and would love to see him paint at Upfest again, and perhaps get a chance to meet him and talk about his work.

5922. Nottingham

Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024
Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024

This is a quick jaunt back to Nottingham and my most recent visit, when I managed to get out and find a few more pieces, including this beauty from Kid 30, who appears to ‘own’ the city, his work being dotted all around the city.

Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024
Kid30, Nottingham, March 2024

The large mural (painted in June 2022) covers the entire end of row wall and features a rather attractive skyscape, and a mash up of Dennis the Menace, and Kid 30’s alter ego ‘Smallkid’. There is something about the size of the piece and its relative simplicity that adds gravitas to the piece. I love it when street artists who paint loads of illegal pieces get to do a legal wall like this as it somehow legitimises their work, and compromises the authorities. My subversive streak emerging there. More from Kid 30 tomorrow.
