Quagmire

.

A garden no more

fox-dug holes full of water

mud in the kitchen

Winter

Kitchen door slams shut

blown by mild, blustery winds

such tediousness.

Dulled

.

Dreariest of days.

even golden leaves struggle

to share their brightness.

Drowsy

It is the weather

that makes me soporific

so I’d like to think

Change

Spent most of the day

ever so slightly cooler

than I’d like to be.

Respite

Blue out of the grey

one day without heavy rain

one day to dry out.

Electric storm

Darkest muddy skies

frequent flickering flashes

and muted thunder

* That was some electric storm we had over Bristol last night. I cannot recall ever seeing anything like it. We were getting about 20-30 flashes of lightning every minute for more than an hour. It was spectacular. And only one rumble of thunder right at the start, to announce the light show had begun.

Humidity

Each breath more effort

and though it remains quite cool

I sense summer’s thrust.

Rain stopped play

Within a minute

of setting out the paint cans

the heavens opened.

British summer time

Cool sun, perfect sky

gusty wind cuts through the yard

September in June.
