I’m awake early
squaking parakeets outside;
a London nuisance.

I sympathise!
For me it is the Olive Thrush, warbling away in the pitch black – long before dawn and the other birds even think of singing!

The Parakeets are beautiful and exotic, but they are just not meant to be here, are noisy and out competing native species.

A pity.

Really!? Where do they originate? The snow muffles sound here for the time being.

They are escapees from zoos and aviaries. They have been spreading over the last fifteen years or so. Lots in Richmond Park, but now here in North London too.

I don’t think he knows how beautiful he is. Now, the bluejays, they are posers.😉

I like bluejays. And hey, you have snow already?

I like them too. Yes, it snowed on Friday night and it’s been cold enough that it’s not melting away. It’s supposed to warm up this week though.

It sounds wonderful, actually. I long for noisy birds but truly only get them in the summer. Few chirp in our winters. I play bird music just to hear them. I can’t even imagine a free parakeet. Amazing.

Well they are really beautiful it has to be said, but they simply shouldn’t be here. I suppose we should just enjoy them.

I sure would. We have wrens, sparrows, chickadees, cardinals, blue jays and a few crows (who are making a SLOW come back after being killed by bird flu). I love crows and had a few who came to eat everyday. I miss them so much. Our winters are too awful to allow colorful birds to live here. You are fortunate to have them. Noisy as they are, they are chatting and happy to be free.

I can’t imagine the parakeets would survive the winter. Ugh. You have my sympathies!

They have the same thing in South Florida and San Francisco but they are escaped parrots–non-native. They are loud.
