Looove it! Is “sit tight” a sailing term?

Sadly it is not. It is an expression my family use a lot. I looked on google and the derivation is unclear.

I use it too, but thought it sounded very much like one.
With your having been a sea-farer, I’m wondering if you’ve ever seen the mini-series, “To the Ends of the Earth” with Jared Harris and Benedict Cumberbatch (pre-Sherlock). It really is something astounding.
