I am Stephen. I live in Bristol, UK. I decided to shorten my profile...to this: Wildlife, haiku, travel, streetart, psychogeography and my family. Not necessarily in that order.

Any good ideas as to how to get rid of them, not including stopping eating fruit?
When I used to run pubs if we got them there they were called Bar Flys and we used to get the slops at the end of the night pour them into a few glasses and then clingfilm the tops really securely perhaps using a rubberband to make sure the clingfilm wasn’t going anywhere and then just poked a few tiny holes in the top and voila.
By next morning the deed was done and the slops and could still be sent back to the brewery as ullage with a little extra weight lol . . . 😉
I think you can use apple cider vinegar or perhaps fruit juice instead of beer slops to just the same effect . . .
Apple cider vinegar in a small glass. Cover with cling film and poke a few holes. Place in locations where there are fruit flies. Worked for me earlier this summer.

No. Pets can’t catch them either. Fly paper?

That’s great inside knowledge. Our method of trying to clap them between your hands only drives the dog crackers.

Will do. We also have clothes moths munching through our home.

Yup, we have mostly wool-based carpets and only yesterday were in a carpet shop considering a programme of replacement.
