Downside summer

Scorched earth allotment

courgette plants and beans withered;

prolonged dry weather.

Blackberrying

Succulent berries

nature’s generous bounty;

purple stained fingers.

Nasty temper

Spiteful malicious

wasp takes aim at my forearm;

throbbing reminder.

by Scooj

Ironic

My allotment is

looking good despite neglect,

perhaps less work works.

Normal service resumed

.

Allotment neglect

mind on other things lately;

afternoon well spent.

Thinking ahead

.

Garlic bulbs purchased

ready to plant tomorrow;

thinking of summer.

Caterpillar

What you will become

far outweighs your current form;

a means to an end.

  • This is the caterpillar of the elephant hawk moth, found on my allotment. Both caterpillar and adult are beautiful in my eyes, a view not shared by everyone.

Sunbathing

Catching the last of

the afternoon sun, your games

for the day, over.

Horseradish

A small snail anchors

atop a shimmering sea

of emerald green.

Greenhouse guest

.

Waiting for seedlings

that will never germinate;

hungry visitor.
