4131. St Werburghs tunnel (270)

Mest is an artist whose writing is improving all the time, not only in quality but also in creativity. Sticking to his standard letter shapes, he gets his variety through his fill designs and colours. I have so many more of his pieces that are not yet published, but posting pieces on Natural Adventures is a very competitive marketplace at the moment. I will get round to publishing more in due course.

The colour contrasts between the orange background and cool blue letter fills works wonderfully, a real hot and cold battle going on in front of our eyes. Mest has also been playing a little by picking out some of the brick work with pink lines. A sprinkling of little yellow dots rounds the piece off nicely. A fine piece from Mest which gets me ever closer to publishing a gallery of his work… watch this space over the next month or two.

3182. Cheltenham 2019 (36)

This is the last of three pieces from last year’s Cheltenham Paint Festival that wasn’t completed during my visit in 2019, but that I had the opportunity to revisit this year. The Star Wars AT-AT is by Pad303 and continues a style that he has been developing over the last three or so years. I’m not quite sure if it qualifies as anamorphic art, but he likes to trick our eyes into believing that the brick wall is coming alive.

Star Wars is a popular theme for street artists and Pad303 has nailed this war machine of the Empire, that I always felt was rather fragile in battle. This is a very clever piece, blending in with the colours of the wall (a wall which I’d like to add is most unsympathetic to being painted) and lifting the image out and giving it an animated quality. Brilliant. I have a few more of these pieces from Pad303 to share, when I have a moment.

2546. St Werburghs tunnel (108)

Another day, another Fiva piece in St Werburghs tunnel. This piece is perhaps a little less elaborate than some we have seen recently and there is no accompanying character, but it retains all the great hallmarks of Fiva’s fabulous work.

Brick walls in street art are something of a ‘thing’ and are painted as a backdrop by many Bristol (and other) artist to great effect. Fiva’s large full caps letters stand out from the brick background and are beautifully filled with a graded colour scheme and spots. All in all a lovely addition to this artist’s growing catalogue of pieces.
