This gorgeous Christmas treat from Ceus brings him back to a wall that he is really rather fond of, and one which is where I first became aware of his fine writing. There appears to be a Battle Royale going on with the warm and cold colour selections used in the piece, producing a stunning effect.

Ceus has settled into a great rhythm with his graffiti writing in Bristol, and he is fast establishing himself within the community. I love it that we have such a vibrant overseas community of artists in Bristol, adding a multicultural layer to the already enormous spectrum of street art that we are privileged to see here

Since his first tentative appearance in Dean Lane a year ago, Ceus has become something of a regular, who clearly likes to paint in Dean Lane, and on this curved wall in particular. His compositions usually feature his letters CEUS and wings, and this one has both.

The letters almost appear as if they are translucent, with the background pattern seeping through into the the word. Very cleverly done. Above, two caps are held aloft by angelic wings, spraying colour into the piece. This is a creative and imaginative piece from the Spanish writer.

Once again, the famous curved wall in Dean Lane gets a makeover by Ceus, who seems to have really taken to Dean Lane for his artwork. It will be interesting to see if he will start to spread his wings (literally-metaphorically-artistically), further afield and starts spreading his talent along the M32 or in the tunnel etc.

You can be sure that when Ceus paints, he will be turning up the dial on his colour selections and creating a piece of beauty. His letters spell out Ceus and feature the pair of wings we see in much of his work. It would be quite interesting to introduce Ceus to Tom Miller and Paul Monsters… what an explosion of colour that would be.

It is always most gratifying to watch an artist get into their stride and a rhythm. Ceus first announced his arrival in Bristol in October 2021 and since then has been getting into a reasonably regular rhythm, and his original writing style has been a breath of fresh air. Ceus doesn’t shy away from colour, and his pieces are full of vibrance and life.

Although a little awkward to photograph, the piece itself is well painted, and there is little doubt about who painted it.

That’s it for now, we have Porto to explore. Judging from our brief stroll last night it looks like a city steeped in culture, with plenty of street art and doors to keep me very happy for a long time.

I simply had to dig this piece out of my archive because I was lucky enough to meet the artist, Ceus, earlier this week painting a new wall very close to this one in Dean Lane. I was not alone in struggling to find out who the artist was, but now the riddle, from last October, is solved. It turns out that Ceus is another Spanish street artist. He lives in Bath and doesn’t have much time to paint as he has a very busy life in the restaurant business. A nicer bloke you couldn’t wish to meet.

This piece is a real stunner, and it was such a shame not to be able to post it last year, but good things come to those who wait. Ceus is a really talented artist, as this piece demonstrates, and the burst of colour on a white background works exceptionally well. It is obvious now to see that the letters spell out CEUS… hindsight is a wonderful thing. I like everything about this piece, and it is a nice warm-up for the piece he painted this week, which I have to return to before it gets painted over. A gem.
