Well, well, well, you don’t go to a spot for a while, and what happens when you do finally pay a visit? Of course, you find something new. This wall on the rear of the Bell Pub in Stokes Croft, used to host a rather fine piece by Sepr, but the whole thing has been replaced by this b boy scene painted by Krome, an artist I know nothing about.

A quick internet search tells me that Krome is a tattooist and graffiti artist from Bristol, however, he is not one I have come across before. Although there is a lot of ‘white space’ (blue) in the piece, the key elements of a graffiti artist, a sound system, a break-dancer, some writing and a DJ at his deck, do enough to keep the piece interesting. It will be fascinating to see whether we see more from Krome, or whether this large piece was a one-off. Time will tell I guess.

What a fantastic piece by Sepr this is, and I totally missed it. The wall on the side of The Bell pub has played host to a piece by Sepr before which I posted way back in May 2016, but when I returned some time last year it had been painted over, and I wondered whether the landlords had had enough of street art on their pub.

I was passing by that way recently and to my complete surprise and joy this ‘new’ and outstanding mural has taken the place of the old one. I asked a lady who came out of the back door of the pub if it was new and she said that it had been painted in June 2019, I thanked her, and felt rather useless that as a chronicler of Bristol street art I had completely missed this one. The story has a happy ending in so much as I did find it in the end and it looks as good as new.

The brilliance of Sepr never seems to dwindle and his story telling through art is quite remarkable. A group of criminal cats have been on a banana robbery and in their attempt to escape have driven in to some police, depcited as pigs of course, and  there are bananas spilling out all over the place.

Make no mistake, I love, love, love this piece and what a treat to find it.

This large wall by Sepr gave me enormous pleasure when I eventually found it in Dalton Square on the side of The Bell pub. I had seen images of it on the Interweb, but it took me an eternity to find it. It turns out, it is only a very small detour from my usual walk into work.

This is classic Sepr, plenty of things going on and lots of fine detail. It might be considered a little nightmarish, with all the characters inside the main character. It is difficult to figure out what is going on…are they all influences from the past?

Common to a lot of his work is wheeled transport, in this case a bicycle. There is also a beautifully crafted ball chain framing the main picture and leading to the two rather wonderful dogs.

Sepr signs off the work with an ornate wildstyle signature to the left of the piece. This really is a fabulous work, and the photographs, taken on a dull day, really don’t do it justice. So totally worth a visit.
