2419. New Stadium Road (20)

Well would you believe it? This huge wall by Nightwayss has given him the opportunity to show us what he can do on a large scale and by way of a commission, and he has risen to the challenge and excelled.

Obviously this is a Marvel comic-inspired piece that features Thor, Spiderman, Black Panther and a lady I’m not quite sure about. Each of the characters is created in an active pose, set on a dark cosmic background.

The piece is almost impossible to photograph because of a tree, in full leaf, directly in front of it. Perhaps in the winter it might be possible to get a slightly better shot of it. The piece is of the highest quality and I am sure that it will have made the owner of the wall very happy indeed.

I cannot fault the piece, but would have liked to have seen a little signature monkey somewhere. Maybe there is one hidden, I’d certainly like to think so. Bravo Nightwayss.

1470. Upfest 2017 (169)

What an extraordinary piece by Title at the Ashton Gate site. The character to those of you not familiar with Marvel comics is Thanos, who I believe makes an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – a film I haven’t seen yet, but will do when the DVD arrives.

The detail in the face and expression bring this ‘photorealistic’ piece to life. Title, from Birmingham is a full time artist, taking commissions around the country. He enjoys festivals, which he can focus on while trying to balance a busy work schedule and family life.

Would be good to see him again at Upfest, but I don’t see his name down for 2018, so mnaybe another time.

392. York Street, Weston-super-Mare

For me, the best bit of going to Weston-super-Mare is knowing that it is the home of JPS, and it really doesn’t take very long to find some of his works about the place. It is largely thanks to JPS that I have taken such an interest in street art in the first place. His pieces in Frogmore Street and at the ‘Arches’ on Gloucester Road, were among my first posts.

His stencils are witty and often contain wordplay but have their real strength in their technical execution. JPS often references popular culture, TV and films in particular, and here he features a life-size Batman, and wonderful pun. I have seen images of this piece all over digital media, so it was a real pleasure to find it for real. I love it that the wall has been repainted and rendered (?) around this work – big respect.

On this particular visit to W-s-M I took many photographs of JPS works and I am mindful that I might have to do a bit of a compilation post, although I really don’t like doing that. I’ll have to have a think.
