Werm and Noise, Dean Lane, Bristol, May 2024

Werm and Noise are no strangers to collaborating with one another and in May, painted this wonderful collaboration in Dean Lane. Both artists have a distinctive style, and although they use different colour palettes in this collaboration, they are joined together with some connecting background characters.

The writing from Werm is busy and electrifying, with brilliant use of contrasting colours and some highly technical skills used to spell out WERM. There is a lot of depth in the piece, with layers sitting on layers. The bright star spots on some of the letters add a twinkle – classy work.

Noise, has been smashing it lately with a host of new pieces during the spring, and does it again with this piece and his characteristic fat letters spelling out NOISE. The two-colour fill transitions nicely using some symbols and patterns where the two colours meet . Both pieces are bookended with little grey characters painted in a cartoon style, but I am not too sure who painted them. All in all a fine collaborative wall from the pair.

Fade, Dibz, Noise and and Awkward, Dean Lane, Bristol, April 2024

I am not sure that I have seen this wall painted as much as it has been over the last year or so, not just painted, but painted with so many high-quality pieces. This recent collaborative piece is by Fade, Dibz, Awkward and Noise.

The left-hand end of the wall is collaborative combination from Fade and Awkward. Starting with the latter, I think that this is the most extensive bit of work I have seen from him, with so much more than his usual mega-tag face. Here Awkward has included a complete character as well as some woodland beasties and flowers, with loads of little details. The character is wearing a Cheech Wizard hat and surreptitiously holding a spray can. Fade has painted some beautifully finished letters, acting as a central platform for Awkward’s decorations.

The middle section is by Dibz with a combination of outstanding writing and a couple of characters… a Vaughn Bode Lizard and another masked character whose name I don’t know, both faithfully reproduced. There have been a whole ton of Vaughn Bode inspired pieces lately, and I guess it is a theme from World Wall Stylers or something like that.

Rounding off the wall and sticking with the colour theme, Noise, who seems to be enjoying a spate of collaborations, has produced another of his NOISE pieces composed of dense letters with stunning fills and transitions. Awkward makes another appearance with a character peeping over the ‘S’ along with a couple more woodland bugs. Altogether a wonderful piece from the foursome.

I mentioned yesterday that you’d be seeing more of Noise today, and true to my promise, here is another fabulous piece from the artist. Noise has a very distinctive style, but I find it quite difficult to describe. His letters tend to be quite thick and nicely proportioned, and which work equally well in upper or lower case. His fills are dynamic, with plenty of interest.

Although this piece from Noise was completed, the wall opposite was being painted by other artists, and some of their kit was strewn around this wall, which I think adds a little to the overall ambience of Dean Lane. The fills in this piece are outstanding, and it is lifted (rather unsubtly) by the red drop shadow on a black background. Still more to come from Noise in what has been a busy month or so.

There are some artists who, for one reason or another make a significant impact on me. Others will drift by, because their work, if I am being honest, simply doesn’t have any ‘wow’ factor, or show any signs that it is likely to. I guess that is being a little harsh, but some artists won’t and don’t appear to have the desire to improve, others might have loads of headroom and gradually piece by piece get better, developing their style and content. I guess that one thing they all have in common is the enjoyment they get out of slapping some paint on a wall.

Noise is an artist who grabbed my attention from the very first piece I saw, with his large chunky letters making a loud visual noise. In this piece the nicely constructed letters are beautifully filled with a series of horizontal blue shades with clever stripe transitions and some superb icicle drips on the letter tops. This is a really nice piece, and adds to an ever growing portfolio… time for a gallery soon I think.

Ooh! this is a very nice piece of graffiti writing from Noise, which was painted in collaboration with Werm for the ‘World Wall Stylers’ December 2023 challenge (@worldwallstylers), which I think incorporated the colours gold and red. Noise followed the brief well.

I like Noise’s large letters, that really impose themselves, and the fact that the ‘I’ sits over the ‘O and S’ which in turn sit over the ‘N and E’. The gold fill is nice and solid with only a few decorative elements, leaving the letters looking uncluttered. This is yet another decent piece from Noise.

Since first appearing on my radar a few months back, Noise has been chugging away very nicely with reasonable regularity, sharing his large, chunky writing style in various spots around Bristol. This one has a camouflage fill, which is the third recent piece with a camouflage fill to appear on Natural Adventures in recent days, and the reason for that was a challenge organised by @worldwallstylers, encouraging artists from around the world to create a piece with a camouflage fill. It was great to see so many Bristol artists participating.

Noise has absolutely smashed it with this piece, with both the fill and the 3D effect with the strong blue shadow. The border and outlines are bold and strong, and the big, thick letters have a real presence. It is a pity about the bicycle in the shot, which almost looks a bit ‘arty’, but isn’t meant to be, but I suppose ‘street furniture’ is nothing new when photographing street art.

Noise has only recently come into my consciousness, but I don’t know whether that is because he is reasonably new to Bristol or whether I simply had a blind spot. Whatever the reason, I seem to see his pieces on a reasonably regular basis, which is great, because I like his rather big brash letters.

This piece on the recently bricked up wall under one of the large Dean Lane skate park ramps spells out NOISE in great big chunky letters that take no prisoners. There is plenty of room for fills, which are beautifully done in turquoise and white, bounded by tidy black borders and drop shadow and a red outline. This is another attractive piece from Noise.

This is the second piece I have posted by Noise, and I suspect I have some others in my archive somewhere. Noise is a graffiti writer, whose writing I really like, it is chunky, confident, assured and nicely crafted.in this piece Noise has also included a character, which is seen quite commonly in graffiti art, but I can’t remember the name or context of the character. A quick Google search tells me it is Orko from He Man.

The letters spell out noise and are filled beautifully and finished off with a splendid white border. I can’t put my finger on it, but I really like Noise’s writing style and look forward to posting more over the coming months.

Background noise. I have only recently become consciously aware of Noise and his rather distinctive style of writing. I have a few of his pieces in my archive, but until now didn’t know much about him, and actually still don’t apart from his name. Noise has been a presence in Bristol, but somehow I just haven’t picked him up on my radar.

Noise’s writing style is not only accomplished, but rather easier on the eye than some writers. His letters are large, rounded and distinctive, and share a quality with Dopes’ letters. The fills here are beautifully done and create a kind of shiny surface effect. This may be the first, but certainly won’t be the last piece by Noise to appear on Natural Adventures.
