I have to confess that I really struggle with promotional pieces. In my purist mind I feel that straying into advertising (whether for mates or for commercial outfits) crosses the line between street art and the ‘edge’ that goes with it, and mainstream commercial activity. This is a personal view, and you may wonder why I post promotional pieces… well I suppose I do it for completeness and to showcase the full spectrum of whet we see in Bristol.

Mr Penfold uploaded a video of himself painting this piece, which reveals his techniques for getting his straight lines and curves into his designs. It is a great abstract design from the artist and is perfect for the spot that he chose to paint.

I think that this is a reasonably old piece by Mr Penfold, but not to me it isn’t because I only recently tracked down this spot, after some considerable time looking for it. The side of this building in White Street has about five windows, beneath each of which is a nice flat rendered wall – perfect for painting.

I haven’t seen much on the streets by Mr Penfold for quite a while now, so finding this was rather pleasing. I think he is concentrating more on his studio design work, which is well worth a gander on his Instagram feed. Often Mr Penfold’s pieces are abstract designs, but every once in a while he paints a character, but they are usually peppered with abstract shapes as is the case here. I would love to see more of his str4eet pieces, but I guess he is out there being busy with his real work.

I have been looking for this spot for a long time, my pride getting in the way of asking, but was assisted by Paul H when I asked him where the second Fink piece was. He told me it was just around the corner from Peel Street Green, and the rest as they say is history (sorry about the cliché). If only I had extended my walks by about 200 meters, I would have found the spot before.

Fink visited Bristol while he was over from Dubai painting at the Cheltenham Paint Festival, and left us with two superb portrait pieces in his stunning single continuous line style. This face is painted in beautiful blues, purples and pink, the colour combination of 2023, which work so well together. The central large face is accompanied by several smaller ones in the background fills. This is belter of a modern piece and would look good in any contemporary art gallery. What a treat his visit turned out to be.
