This is an outstanding collaborative piece from Rusk and Zesk. Zesk was one of the first artists I wrote about on Natural Adventures, probably because he had painted a piece on the wall of a pub very close to my place of work. At the time I thought he was a regular artist in Bristol, but in reality I have only seen a handful of his pieces. I believe he lives a very long way away. It would seem that he is a pal of Rusk’s, as they did a couple of collaborations in what must have been a recent visit to Brisl by Zesk.

The artists have switched things up a bit, with each writing the other’s name, which in reality isn’t too much of a challenge as they share two letters in the right place. On the left is Rusk writing ZESK. I rarely have anything other than praise and admiration for Rusk’s work, and that hasn’t changed here. Tight and on-point.

Zesk’s RUSK is an absolute delight and introduces his magic, glitery touch which makes his work stand out. The background stars are particularly pleasing. You’ve got to love that ‘R’ as well. Magnificent.

262. Dean Lane skate park (8)

Now I am back in the UK, after a wonderful trip across ‘the pond’, I can resume my posts on Bristol street art/graffiti (with maybe a couple of guest entries from New York).

This is a truly brilliant collaboration from a few weeks ago in Dean Lane between Zesk and Hemper. Zesk has appeared in these pages a couple of times, and his writing is becoming much more familiar, especially his choice of colours (purples and golds) combined with spheres. Hemper I haven’t come across before, which is a little surprising as he has been writing in Bristol since 2009. There is a lovely profile on Hemper here – from the great ‘Weapon of Choice‘ website.

This collaboration was a bit of fun, and I think was sprayed at the same time as the recent Inkie piece. You will notice that a writer – Suger – has made an appearance. His improving burners are turning up all over the place in Bristol.

Now back to the streets, where I have already noticed a whole bunch of new stuff has gone up while I have been away.

247. M32 Roundabout, Junction 3 (10)

I have only seen one other piece by Zesk, and it is the rather lovely work on the side of the Three Tuns pub in Partition Street, near my work. This Burner contains many of the characteristics of Zesk’s work, including the stars and the colours, shading and black spots used. I guess the biggest give away though is that it says ‘Zesk’ in big letters.

This is a nice piece by a great artist. It is good to see that someone who is accustomed to doing commissions, still hits the areas where street art is tolerated rather than permitted (another way of saying not strictly legal).

101. Partition Street

I have visited the Three Tuns pub on many occasions. A few years ago it was an office favourite for farewell dos – at that time the public sector was being hit by harsh cuts, and many of my friends lost their jobs. It may become a favoured venue again as further cuts are in train for this year.

This cheerful mural by Zesk has appeared very recently (Early January 2016) and is something of a departure from his usual wildstyle burners. As with many of the street artists in Bristol, Zesk has close links with the hip hop music scene. There is little more I can tell you about him, but he keeps his Flickr account up to date.

There is something about this piece that reminds me of some of Inkie’s work. I think it will grow on me, especially as I will walk past it most days.
