Back in April, there was a massive explosion of new pieces appearing in the tunnels of The Bearpit. This beautiful piece by Beastie, I believe, only happened because he was hanging out with some other artists and decided at the last minute to join in.

As is often the case at the moment, you have to be very quick to get ‘clean’ photographs of anything in the Bristol hotspots. By the time I got to this one, it was already quite heavily tagged. It is a really lovely work, Beastie is a very talented artist. Sadly, his cat in Hillgrove street has recently been defaced, which is a real shame, it is one of my favourite pieces in Bristol.
So sad to see pieces like this defaced. It happens some in NYC too, although not everywhere – I notice it the most in Bushwick, Brooklyn. There’s an interesting tension at work when it comes to street art and graffiti.

You are right. The ground rules are quite difficult to work out, and some taggers simply don’t care.

Not the cat! I love that cat. Maybe he will put up another one. It is the nature of street art–here today, tagged tomorrow.

I am really annoyed about this one. Somebody really went out of their way to deface it. Not even a tag, but just indiscriminately sprayed over. Very sad. The cat is very similar to the JPS cats. We need more cats.
