There’s certainly food for thought in the form and pattern of those extraordinary spikes but function? Scaring off potential predators wouldn’t require such complexity, so I guess it must be to impress others of the same kind. Great photo but what and where is this?

Thanks, the photo was taken in the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. I don’t know what kind of lizard it is, I just got snap happy.
