597. James Street (1)

Once in a while, you feel that you might be witnessing something rather special, and so it is with the art of Tom Miller. I would be the first to concede that his surrealist style isn’t to everyone’s taste, but what he has to offer, both on canvass and on walls, is very different, refreshing, challenging, intelligent, busy and bright. I think and hope he will go a long way.

He was busy painting this new wall on New Year’s Eve and into New Year. Dedication to his craft.

I am not entirely sure what the piece is depicting, but it looks a little like Buddha with a whole load of things going on around him and a rather nice little hut ion his head for a hat. Miller’s pieces are always bursting with energy and weirdness. Lots of body parts and face parts adorn his subjects. There is meaning to all of this I’m sure, but it is probably deeply rooted in the artist’s sub-conscious.

A wonderful new landmark on the Bristol street art trail, slightly off the beaten track, but worth the walk.

I am Stephen. I live in Bristol, UK. I decided to shorten my profile...to this: Wildlife, haiku, travel, streetart, psychogeography and my family. Not necessarily in that order.

  1. I snapped this wonderful mural by chance over the Upfest weekend and was really taken by the quality of his artwork. Always a pleasure finding good artwork off the beaten track!!!!

      1. Thanks Scooj….. I like his style of painting!! Must have been so cold doing that one during the winter!!! I came across the collective of street artists/writers “ASK” Really good stuff. Do you know much about them? Soooooo much street art in Bristol… I must get down there again… I came back with lots of snaps of unknown street art to me.

      2. Ask are probably the largest cew in Bristol and include: Deamze, Cheo, Voyder, Sled One, Sepr, Soker, and many others – stands for After School Klub. Another crew to look out for is RAW, Read and Weep, which includes Rusk, Ryder, T-Rex, Smak and others. There is something for everyone in Bristol, from high-end, fine art, legal, permitted, illegal, paste ups, graffiti writers, abstract art, stencils. All of it for free. I write about 2 posts a day, but could easily write five a day, with the amount of art that happens here…and then there is Upfest! bonkers.
