Ghost door in a wall, Exeter, October 2024

Thursday doors – 14 November 2024 – Exeter doors

Doors 286 – Doors from Exeter, Devon – Part III, October 2023

This week I continue with my stroll around Exeter in October 2023 with a set of doors from the area around the cathedral. Naturally, I cherry-pick the doors I photograph, and for every gem, there are dozens of duds. I wouldn’t want you to think that Exeter, or any other English city I have featured, is jammed full of stunning period buildings – if only that were true. Unfortunately, the war and ensuing modern town planning destroyed swathes of beautiful old and ancient buildings, and those that remain are like J.R.R. Tolkein’s ents.

Enjoy the doors:

That’s yer lot for this week. Next time I will post some pretty special doors from the cathedral grounds, in this continuing series from Exeter.

If you have made it this far, you probably like doors, and you really ought to take a look at the No Facilities blog by Dan Anton who has taken over the hosting of Thursday Doors from Norm 2.0 blog. I am Stephen. I live in Bristol, UK. I decided to shorten my profile...to this: Wildlife, haiku, travel, streetart, psychogeography and my family. Not necessarily in that order.

  1. These are all interesting, Steve. I think the wonky one should be rehung, perhaps replaced with a door with a few etched glass details. It’s a lovely entrance. The ghost door is my favorite. They did a great job on that.

  2. Another fabulous set of doors from your Exeter gallery, Stephen. Your select great angles for your photos. I like that sideways perspective with the broom against the wall… looks like a well lived in home.. (The colonel’s green door)

My favorites are the slim church door and the ghost door. The ghost door looks like there are a great many stories to go with that now once-door, both intriguing and…fascinating.
As always great share and doors, Stephen. Have a good one!
