Thursday Doors – 26 June 2025 – Doors of Leicester

Doors 313 – Leicester, Leicestershire (part III) – May 2024

This is the final selection of doors from a visit I made to Leicester with work in May 2024. I did however return in June 2024 and captured a whole load more doors, but I will save these for another day. While Leicester is the sort of city that you drive past or have to have a good reason to go there, it has an interesting history and special culture all of its own, and the surrounding countryside is quite beautiful.

I hope you enjoy the final selection in this series:

Well that’s it for another week and the end of this visit to Leicester. Something different to come next time.

If you have made it this far, you probably like doors, and you really ought to take a look at the No Facilities blog by Dan Anton who has taken over the hosting of Thursday Doors from Norm 2.0 blog. 1. You had me right off with the train station, Steve, and that has to be the biggest ghost door we’ve ever had for Thursday Doors. I hope something can be done with the Carron Buildings. We have a an old manufacturing campus in Hartford that struggled for years trying to be rented as office space. It’s being redeveloped now, I think mainly as residential space. I featured it years ago, and I hope to be able to revisit it soon.

I enjoyed this series, and I’ll be happy when you share pictures of your return visit.

  2. Thank you for the wonderful and superb photos-tour of Leicester, Stephen.

The buildings in general are full of elegant style. I can imagine Leicester in its days as a the second richest city in Europe back in the 30’s (I think). I love the photo of the wrought iron gate and the low view you captured to the walkup to the door.

My favorite is the facade and grey door to the Carron Building. I like the restored brickwork and the arch of the door (top) is quite unique.

Thank you for this excellent tour. Great job.
