Doors 342 – Doors from the City of York (Part III), June 2024
The doors this week continue on my journey from my hotel to the office, which takes me close to York Minster (more on that next week). It is all a while ago now, and I forget exactly where I was when I took the pictures. I hope you enjoy them:

Certainly the City of York has some stunning historic doors, many of which are rather classy. Next time I’ll share some doors from York Minster. Until then, I bid you farewell.
If you have made it this far, you probably like doors, and you really ought to take a look at the No Facilities blog by Dan Anton who has taken over the hosting of Thursday Doors from Norm 2.0 blog. Links to more doorscursions can be found in the comments section of Dan Anton’s weekly Thursday Doors post and his Sunday recap.

York has some very elegant doors xx

These are great doors, Steve. My first thought was that you had captured the doors to that stone gate both open and closed. I was surprised when I realize it was two massive gates. I like the variety of the other doors you collected. I have to add that I find the craftsmanship in the “plumbing” of the rain collection to be quite interesting. I’m glad they preserved the city gate. i hope you have a wonderful weekend. Have you been recovering from your skiing by watching the Olympics?

Wonderful photos and gallery! I like the stonework and studded doors. The blue door at number 9 is full of stately elegance and well balanced.
Is that a garden/park on the left with the trees in the photo of the city gates? Thanks for the great tour of York. Lots of history in this city and your doors covered well that sense of well maintained historic grandeur. Thank you Stephen.

It is funny, but I hadn’t noticed the blue/green colour thing going on there. Thank you for seeing it.

Medieval gatehouses are always incredible, not least that they have survived the centuries.
