Lots to see and admire in this wonderful triptych from Cheo, Dibz and Ulow, painted during a ‘high end’ paint jam celebrating the latter’s birthday. The whole wall, (see last photograph) was sheer class.

First up in this little sequence of three is a brilliant B Boy character by Cheo, with his second piece of the paint jam.  A perfect cartoon-style, with so much detail to enjoy, and of course the trademark bee.

In the middle of this triptych is an outstanding piece of graffiti writing by Dibz which appropriately spells out ULOW. Beautifully designed letters and fills have to give way a little to some amazing exploding pink bubbles. A nicely balanced piece.

Finally, all eyes are on the amazing character by the birthday boy himself. Ulow has painted an extraordinary comic-style full portrait of a young woman dancing, or so it appears. Ulow has created enormous depth with his perspective, and accentuated the muscle-tone incredibly skilfully. Truly stunning work from all three artists.

Hemper and Hypo, M32 roundabout, Bristol, February 2025

Hypo and Hemper have been super-busy this February, Hemper in particular. This collaboration has taken up quite a lot of space on the long wall on the northern side of the M32 roundabout, and it is a really impressive production piece.

Hemper has produced a stunning piece of writing to the left spelling out HEMS. He has a vibrant colour horizontal gradient running through the letters, and his subtle white trims and flashes give it all a super depth and lifts it away from the wall. I think that the B boy character is also by Hemper along with the urban landscape behind.

Hypo, who often paints with Hemper continues the colour scheme bringing balance to the production. This might just be one of the best pieces I have seen from Hypo. The depth of his letters is great, and the graded fills perfectly done. I particularly like the interstitial spots between the letters. There is a superb ‘old school’ vibe about this collaboration.

Well, well, well, you don’t go to a spot for a while, and what happens when you do finally pay a visit? Of course, you find something new. This wall on the rear of the Bell Pub in Stokes Croft, used to host a rather fine piece by Sepr, but the whole thing has been replaced by this b boy scene painted by Krome, an artist I know nothing about.

A quick internet search tells me that Krome is a tattooist and graffiti artist from Bristol, however, he is not one I have come across before. Although there is a lot of ‘white space’ (blue) in the piece, the key elements of a graffiti artist, a sound system, a break-dancer, some writing and a DJ at his deck, do enough to keep the piece interesting. It will be fascinating to see whether we see more from Krome, or whether this large piece was a one-off. Time will tell I guess.
