This is simply brilliant. There really isn’t much more I can say about it. Haka has painted a superb rendition of Dr Seuss’ ‘Cat in the Hat’, driving a crazy vehicle with four ‘arms’ holding up each of the letters H A K A.

Haka has been incredibly faithful to the original artwork by Dr Seuss and captures everything that is so compelling about our childhood, it is a piece full of nostalgia for me and for many others I would expect. Haka’s series of children’s book characters continues to delight and upscale these wonderful images for all to enjoy. Bravo!
I have made two visits to Nottingham in the last six months or so, but only found this shutter piece opposite the station, by Kid 30 on the second trip. On the first visit, the shutter had been up. Sometimes visiting city centres on Sundays or light mornings/evenings is the only way to see shutter pieces – I caught this one early in the morning before the shop had opened.

In this mash-up piece, Kid 30 has combined the cartoon characters of Cat in the Hat, Homer Simpson (I think), The Pink Panther and Top Cat, seamlessly stitched together in an entertaining way. I am a big fan of Kid 30’s work and would love to see him paint at Upfest again, and perhaps get a chance to meet him and talk about his work.
Just when you thought the Rezwonk/Decay partnership couldn’t possibly get any better, they pull this one out of the hat (see what I did there?). This is a remarkable and thoroughly enjoyable collaboration painted brilliantly in the style of Dr Seuss’ Cat in the Hat.

The left hand side of the collaboration is by Rezwonk where the writing almost takes second place to The Cat, Thing 1, the kite and flower pot and the general setting of the piece. I believe this piece to be utterly outstanding and is right up there with my favourite pieces of the year.

The Cat in particular is so well painted, like he has stepped straight off the page of a book, Thing 1 also is incredibly faithful to the book. Surely this can’t have been painted with spray cans alone?

The right hand side of the collaboration is by Decay who has introduced the character Sam I am from the book Green Eggs and Ham. He also included the goldfish in his bowl from Cat in the Hat.

Decay has gone for a simple piece of writing in his usual (2019) style which acts as a fabulous backdrop to everything else that is going on with the piece. Fortunately the colour schemes used are not polluted by the horrible light conditions in the tunnel, and the photographs of the piece have come out OK.
Thoroughly brilliant by this pairing – Bravo! Bravo!
