3820. M32 Cycle path (135)

Laic217 – or old faithful as he should be called, has turned out yet another outstanding piece to add to his vast collection. Just to get a feel for his talent, it would be worth taking a quick look at this newly revised gallery to refresh your memory.

In this piece, we see Laic217 return to his trippy, psychedelic facial disruption theme, with doubling eyes vertically and mouth furnished with an additional row of teeth, not forgetting the duplication of smoking joints. I don’t think we have to look too far to understand where Laic217 gets his inspiration from.

The character looks a little worse for wear, his bloodshot eyes adding to the overall look, and the pink gunge dripping from his bucket hat rather neatly spells out Laic217 before settling on his shoulder. For Laic217 connoisseurs, this is a gem.

3819. Cumberland Basin

One of many great things about summer is that is gets people outdoors more often and in particular, artists who might be more familiar with their studios get a chance to express themselves by painting a few walls. This piece by Yoliws was created during a paint jam organised by the Bristol Womxn Mural Collective a few weeks back.

Although Yoliws doesn’t paint walls too often, her style is highly memorable and always rather fun and joyful. The figures she paints are wobbly and stylised, the sorts of things that would work really well on cards or illustrating the pages of children’s books. Simple and beautiful.

3814. Muriel Alleyway (5)

Hurrah! For Yoliws ( Yoli Ward-Streeter) a Bristol artist and member of the fabulous Bristol Womxn Mural Collective, hurrah! I say again for this delightful mural in one of Bristol’s less visited street art spots. This mural is bright and full of joy.

I managed to take these pictures on a bright day and without the trees casting a shadow, which is something of a feat in this particular spot. The character has been painted with Yoliws’ characteristic wobbly lines and the orange body filled with beautiful stars and squiggles. The piece has loads of movement to it and an underlying happiness, which is so great to see. A truly uplifting mural.

3809. River Avon (17)

Wherever you are in Bristol you are probably never too far away from a piece by Eman. This is an artist who has spent the last six months or so bombarding Bristol’s walls with writing and characters, stretching his portfolio ever wider.

This character piece is one that he is fond of, and it has cropped up in Natural Adventures a couple of times before. It is a character that Eman has used for his Instagram profile, so it it one he obviously identifies with. Painted an the cycle path alongside the River Avon, this blue face stands out from the crowd. Always more to come from Eman.

3762. L Dub (28)

What a truly great surprise, on a recent trip to L Dub (Lawrence Weston), to see this old school collaboration from 2Keen and DJ Perks. It was especially nice to see as 2Keen doesn’t paint all that often and this is something of a rarity.

I have met 2Keen a number of times, particularly when he was painting the REDLAND piece (below) not far from where I live, a few years ago, and he is a very nice chap whose failing eyesight makes his painting achievements all the more impressive. His old school characters are very recognisable, having exaggerated cartoon-like features. This one is especially good.

The writing from DJ Perks is also very nicely done, with the shading in the green letters providing some real depth. It seems that DJ Perks is an absolute natural and continues to go from strength to strength.

All in all a very nice collaboration.

3757. L Dub (27)

It can become confusing sometimes when you are on the hunt for a specific piece. When there are hundreds of images swirling around your head that you have seen on social media, it is easy to forget what pieces you have gone out to photograph, and this confusion very nearly led to me missing out on this magnificent piece by Laic217. I had walked past it, thinking that I had photographed it before, and it was only on my return journey that I realised it was new but not the new piece I was looking for… that was somewhere completely different.

Laic217 has been creating some amazing pieces recently, and he is definitely on an upward trajectory. This skeletal figure, puffing away on a joint, is another fine example of the artist’s work, once again showcasing his craft in painting materials and fabrics that his characters wear. More good work. I was fortunate enough to bump into Paul H on this trip, and it is surprising how often that happens, but here, miles away from our usual haunts on the same day at the same time, was quite bonkers. We stopped and chatted for a while before I had to scarpa back to work.

3749. Brunel Way (111)

I got rather lucky with this piece, managing to time my walk perfectly to be able to catch up with the artist mid way through painting it. The very large piece is by an artist I had never met before and didn’t even know about, Vents137. For an artist who specialises in painting trains, this was something of a departure (no pun intended), but very impressive nonetheless. Vents137 wasn’t at all happy with the colours though and just wanted to get it finished quickly, and he was very quick.

The piece is a classic writing and character arrangement with the letters spelling out VENT and the character taking the form of a hooded robot kind of thing, reminding me a little bit of a Snub23. It is all quite unlike anything I am used to seeing in Bristol and I hope that Vent137 takes to the walls more often.

Yet another debut on Natural Adventures from an experienced artist. How on earth am I expected to keep on top of all of this, I ask you? Great piece that unfortunately didn’t last too long.

3740. Cumberland Basin

From a few weeks ago, this pair of characters by Eman occupy this strange little tunnel space alongside several other pieces by the artist… he has made himself quite at home here, and why not. I chatted with Eman about what these creatures were, and I have since forgotten, so I will have to ask him again.

The rather cute characters are reasonably straightforward in terms of design and fills etc. and form the perfect template for development and the addition of more intricate patterning and shading. These would make a perfect subject to fill the void left behind by #Followmyrabbits’ return to Poland. More of these to come.

3737. Dean Lane skate park (420)

They say that necessity is the mother of invention, so when a large amount of scaffolding goes up against one of the most famous walls in Bristol what do you do?… well you simply work between the uprights like Zake has done with this small piece.

Zake is another artist who has been reasonably quiet over the last year, but has been painting just enough to ensure we don’t forget about him. The piece painted here is necessarily tall and thin to fit into a space between the scaffolding uprights. A very nice piece full of character and a rather fetching Victorian stiff collar. Great to see Zake getting really busy again with this being one of several new pieces.

3735. St Werburghs tunnel (243)

When you get to see the work of particular artists again and again it becomes incredibly easy to be complacent or even blazé and you need to stop, think and take stock of what is in front of you. I am guilty of this day in day out because we are so spoilt with talent in Bristol. This lovely Elvs piece in St Werburghs tunnel is a case in point.

Elvs is one of those artists whose work I like to post every time, and to date I don’t think I have failed to post any of his pieces that I have photographed. This is a lovely piece, beautifully painted with his customary unique style and a lovely blend of horizontal fills from blue to white. The cartoon character is a mystery to me, but probably featured on TV during the 1990s I would guess. Altogether another outstanding work from Elvs.
