2935. Dean Lane skate park (310)

This is an older TES from Slim Pickings (TES) painted back in July 2018, before I had properly registered how many different versions of his ‘super-tag’ he had produced. I post his pieces rather sparingly, because to some they might seem a bit repetitive, but for others the joy is in scrutinising the subtle differences between the designs of each one and the use of different colours and fill patterns.

One thing that remains consistent with Slim Pickings is that his work is always immaculately presented. The lines are always clean and the fills solid without thin bits that you see on a lot of throw ups for example. The red and green work well and the yellow outline sets the piece off nicely.

Slim Pickings (TES)

A beautiful collection of graffiti writing from this Bristol artist and his TES pieces, mostly in Dean Lane skate park – from the No Frills crew.

2911. Dean Lane skate park (306)

There is no order or plan with which I am going through my archive (during lock down) I am simply skipping from monthly folder to folder, spotting something and thinking, ‘ah yes, this needs posting’. This exact process has happened several times with Slim Pickings (TES) and each time I put the moment back to be returned to another time. Well, enough is enough. Here is a rather lovely TES from March last year, that didn’t get posted first time round.

As I would always expect from Slim Pickings, this is a really tight and clean piece, painted in pillar box red set on a dull bronze background with some green gunge and drips for good measure. The white highlight lines are just enough to give the letters a 3D feel. Clever and consistent. Note to self… high time I did a gallery.

Another nice piece of graffiti writing from a resurgent Turoe One, nice and heavy on the chrome. Turoe One is a highly versatile writer who explores different styles and scripts and colours so that if he were writing something other than his name, it could be a challenge to identify his work. Does that make sense?

This photograph was taken during March and was probably my penultimate trip down there before lock down happened. I can walk to the North Bristol spots from home and have been able to check them out, but Bedminster is a bit of a hike, so I’ve not seen whether there is much new there, but I doubt it. I’ll continue to trawl through my archives.

Another triumph for Turow One on the famous curved wall in Dean Lane skate park. There is something rather pleasing about the greyscale graffiti writing topped with a vibrant pink and lilac drippy splodginess. The writing is deliberately made to look kind of messy and drippy, but all the elements of skillful work are there.

I think that Turoe One might be topping the chart in Bristol as being the most productive astist in town just at the moment, with perhaps the exception of Face 1st who is in a league of his own. Since the weather has improved a little, the turnover in Dean Lane has increased, and this wall in particular has seen a fair amount of action. This is a classy piece of graffiti writing from a confident and accomplished artist.

The turnover at Dean Lane is beginning to pick up and this wonderful piece of graffiti writing by Remer from earlier in the month has now gone. I haven’t seen anything by Remer in Bristol before and am guessing that he is a visitor to the city and in some way part of or related to the No Frills crew.

This writing is highly stylised and beautifully presented, combining both curved and straight lines to great effect. The fill is interesting, with a variety of shapes and blocks in complementary colours in two main shades. This is an accomplished piece nicely done, bith crisp and clean. Remer is always welcome to come back to Bristol.

2709. St Werburghs tunnel (135)

I have mentioned before that until relatively recently Turoe One has been a little off my radar, but that situation is being rectified. I am puzzled though, has my blind spot been because I simply didn’t see his work, or has he been much more active on the streets over the last six months or so? Either way, I am enjoying his work.

This recent piece in the tunnel carries all the hallmarks of a confident and experienced artist at ease with his skills. Great letter shapes, colour selections and fills, and although not my favourite piece by Turoe One, it is an accomplished work.

This is just sublime. Although the form of Slim Pickings’ (TES) work is relatively simple and repeated, the way he sets about the colours, fills and attention to detail is masterful. In this piece I absolutely love the complementary colours of the fill and the bubbly shapes. As always the outline and shadow are clean and crisp.

The letters TES are set on a floaty cloud of green and red and the letters are adorned with some little light blue drippy bits and whight highlights. The whole thing is set off perfectly with a grey buffed wall, completely worth the effort if you ask me. Really nice piece.

Well, so long as Slim Pickings keeps churning out his magnificent TES pieces, I’ll continue to post them. As always his work is clean, sharp and he has some decent colour selections although I fear there might be just a little bit too much contrast between the letter colours and the green and yellow background.

I have a great many pieces by Slim Pickings in my archive and I’m just waiting for a lean period to publish them (the chance would be a fine thing). More to come in due course – maybe I feel a gallery coming on…

Slim Pickings (a name for this artist I got from I know not where) or Tes has consistently turned out pieces (most of them in Dean Lane) this year each to a really high standard as one would expect from this perfectionist. Over the year there have been subtle changes to his general design that keep his work interesting and alive.

These letters have been painted over another piece which sadly I missed, as it looks rather unusual with Mc Scrooge or whatever his name is sitting in an arm chair. Slim Pickings’ piece once again demonstrates his great talent for finding the right colour combinations to bring out the best in his work. I’ll be interested to see how much he changes his standard letters over time.
