This container, behind the Watershed, is one of the more curious spots in Bristol. I am not sure who owns the container, nor do I understand quite why the council has given permission for it to be sited here, but here it is and fortunately for us, it has played host to a series of high-end commissions over the years. Inkie replaced the Paul Monsters piece that had been here before a little while back, but I have only recently photographed it.

There are several Inkie elements that have come together in perfect harmony in this combination piece. The print background runs through the whole piece and sets a regular patterned backdrop. Of course the distinctive writing in very Inkie colours is as good as you’ll see and to the right is one of his beautiful Art Nouveau style characters. The only board of the piece that leaves me scratching my head is the cartoon-style spray can, which doesn’t look like an Inkie piece at all and doesn’t quite fit with the rest of it.

This is another wonderful greyscale/chrome piece from Kosc, in a series of pieces that he has been working on recently. The elaborate letters spell KOSC and are presented on a KOSC printed background, a technique I have seen the artist use before. I guess he must have a roller with the letters on it, or a print block, to cover the whole wall… it could be a stencil, but it doesn’t quite look like it to me.

Once again Kosc has included his rivet theme which makes it look like the letters have been made up of metal plates welded and riveted together, which is a clever illusion, considering the whole thing is flat paint on a flat wall. A nice shout-out to the NTS crew and XXIII round off the piece nicely.

1562. North Street Green (11)

This utterly magnificent piece is by Philth who is the Upfest featured artist for June and who has made this Upfest curated wall his own for the month. Some of you may remember his Upfest 2017 piece which he painted with N4T4 in the rain, both artists sporting umbrellas while at work.

Since Upfest, Philth has gone on a binge of producing the most beautiful floral prints, which transport me back to my home in the 1970s and my mother’s love for floral wallpaper. She had good taste and would surely love this wall by Philth.

This work really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, it is so different, and it is great to see floral print on this kind of scale. I can’t wait to see what he treats us to for Upfest 2018 (only a month away…can it be true?
