2914. Stokes Croft

Another archive piece, this time from #DFTE, on the famous wall on the corner of Stokes Croft and City Road. This is one of #DFTE’s framed pieces, and if I am honest, I’m not entirely certain that it is still there.

The words ‘We are all in this together‘ have a certain poignancy about them today as we sit in the midst of a global pandemic. I like the sentiment, but I dislike the way our government have rolled out this slogan (as if it was their invention) to try and inject some patriotism and collective responsibility for the fallout of coronavirus. I feel a monumental rant cominng on, so I will end the post now before I bore the living daylights out of you. In cheerier times I would appreciate the words more. I am a big fan of the artist and his alternative style.

* I hear it all the time from politicians and pundits in the media – ‘intolerance will not be tolerated’. I know it is dependent on what is being talked about, but conceptually it is challenging to say such things.

2163. St Werburghs tunnel (73)

Another first, but certainly not the last from an artist who does something a little different from the usual fare we see on the streets. This framed slogan or saying is by  #DFTE, who is a Bristol-based artist who places these little gems to carefully thought out places in the City.

If you look up at the north end of the St Werburghs tunnel, you will see this installation clinging to the bricks on the arched roof. It says ‘This is for you’, which is very nice… I guess it is a message to those who look around them and live in the now. It must have been quite a challenge getting it up there and sticking it to the ceiling, but it was utterly worth it and certainly brightened my day when I first saw it. More to come.

2074. Lawrence Hill roundabout (5)

This is another of the rather cute cartoon-style animals from Nevla in one of the tunnels of Lawrence Hill roundabout. Like many of his pieces this one carries not one but three short slogans which say ‘express yourself’, ‘fun and chill’ and ‘hello there’

So often his pieces are positive and fun which is a great attitude to have when decorating the streets. A Bristol fox with a PMA… what more could you want?
