This wonderful character by Veeez, or VZA, is another one I have pulled out of my archive from earlier this year, because it is simply too good not to post. There was a time when VZA first hit the walls of Bristol that it was difficult to not stumble across one of his characters of toadstools, however, of late his pieces have become a bit of a rarity.

This is a wonderful, bold and bright alien bug painted with strong fills in two shades and an incredibly precise thin black outline. Obviously the work of a very skilled artist and a superbly creative subject too. It is a pity he doesn’t paint all that often, although it is always worth waiting for.
This wall on the side of the Veeez shop is becoming something of an advertising hoarding for the shop’s wares and events, and offers an opportunity for artists to paint a legal wall. It comes at the cost of painting an advert, and regular readers will know that that doesn’t sit all that comfortably with me.

I am a hypocrite if nothing else, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share this advertisement by Cheo, mainly because it is by Cheo. Everything about Cheo’s work is pretty close to perfection. His compositions are always on point, and his artwork execution exceptional. He is at the very top of his game, and seems to be painting a little more often lately.
I shan’t go into a drawn out conversation about my reluctance to post promotional street art, because I did all that about a week ago, and would be in danger of becoming (more) boring. I choose to concentrate on the left-hand side of this piece by Awkward, painted on the side of a graffiti shop and gallery ‘Veeez’, which does a great job with supporting the culture in and around Bristol. Veeez is also an artist who has features a number of times in Natural Adventures.

The Awkward character is exactly what you’d expect from the artist. A kind of skeletal face painted in an irregular style, with enormous eyes and a speech bubble with the work AWK-WARD written in it. There is plenty of movement generated by the little wavy yellow lines around the outline. Another one for the gallery.
This wall is adjacent to a shop called Veeez, a name that might be familiar to regular readers of Natural Adventures, because of its close association with street art in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. Every now and again the wall is handed over to a street artist who may be holding an exhibition of art in the shop, and I think that is the case with this brilliant piece by Peanutsdeli.

The artist’s style is without doubt influenced by manga comics – my first introduction to which was the fabulous TV cartoon series Marine Boy in the 1960s. This bright and colourful piece acted as a prelude to the magnificent clothes and prints that were inside the shop. I am a huge admirer of Peanutsdeli’s work and am overjoyed every time he paints in Bristol.
Lately, there has been a bit of a transformation in approach and style from Veeez (VZA), who has featured on Natural Adventures before, but with a rather different look. This stunning piece in Dean Lane is one of a recent series of character pieces and writing that takes the level of his work up a notch or two.

The alien character in vibrant pink and green colours absolutely smacks you in the face, determined not to be ignored. The execution is beautifully done, with some nice shading in the fills to give depth. The black lines and border are crisp and tidy, and the adoption of a second turquoise border lifts the whole piece off the door on which it is painted. Great work from Veeez, with more to come soon.
There are some artists that paint so much, that the only way to showcase them here on Natural Adventures is to save up several and post them all at the same time. When I went up to Purdown a week or two back, I was confronted with several pieces by VZA (Veeez) on the concrete walls, and here they are.

VZA has three or four strong forms that he likes to paint, one of which is a simple character with big white eyes. The saying ‘less is more’ is probably appropriate with his work, like the famous London street artist Stik. I would like to think that the colour selection in this piece is in support of Ukraine

Sticking with the two large eyes, the introduction of an arrow and an exclamation mark in red and white, is as good as any signature. Although the form is again simple, there is a lot of texture and character in the piece.

By placing all these VZA pieces together in one post, you can get a real sense of his style and his work rate. I have another whole pile of his work to share and will soon do another of these compilations.
I have a feeling that Tuco would approve of this piece from Veeez, an artist I have been calling Veee, but am in the process of updating. Tuco, another Bristol graffiti writer has a thing for mattresses, and I sense there could be some mattress-envy going on here.

Veeez has been working like a beast, getting his rather special mega-tags embedded all over the city. There is barely a nook or cranny that hasn’t been visited by the artist. He has two or three variants, and in this post he has both the face, as shown on the mattress and his little ‘mushroom’ character below.

I think I will have to start multiple posting his pieces, like I do with Maybe, because otherwise Natural Adventures would be in danger of becoming the Veeez show. It is great to see how quickly and how well the artist has made himself at home.
