6707. St Werburghs tunnel (472)

Only a few days ago I posted a piece by Zed in the Clouds and said at the time that he was hugely underrepresented on this blog, so as part of remedying that gap, here is a recent piece by the artist in St Werburghs tunnel, which is rather larger than his usual offering.

This combination piece features his familiar character donning a red bucket hat and the letters ZED. Both parts of the combination are filled with a cream tone that is draped in a mass of colour streaks that look like scribbles from a child’s drawing pad. All of the lines run vertically and are augmented with some star decorations. To round off the piece, Zed has included some blood-red drips throughout that bled from the border. Overall, a very nice piece.

I sometimes wonder if anyone would notice if I stopped writing about the street/graffiti art pieces that I post, and simply presented the photographs, but then I have to remind myself that this blog is primarily for me and my mental health… that others might enjoy it is a joyous blessing. I cannot be certain that this vertically stacked pair are collaborative or simply adjacent. There are red drips running through both, but I think that has more to do with the lower piece by j9449j incorporating them into his piece.

The top piece is by Zed in the Clouds, an artist who is ridiculously underrepresented on Natural Adventures, a situation I simply must remedy. His combination piece contains the letters ZED and his trademark character. With the incorporation of the background the piece is literally zed in the clouds.

The lower piece is by an artist who seems to delight in changing his Instagram handle on a regular basis, making it rather difficult to know what to call him, so I stick with the first name I used, which is j9449j. Among his other monikers are Dr3amc0re94 and all_4_n0thing – this is someone who doesn’t want to leave much of a digital footprint like many other street artists. His letters, which I can never read, always have fills that I like to think have a natural emphasis with lots of leaves and plant shapes. This is a fine piece of writing that could so easily be dominated by the vibrant background, but actually complements it well.

These large block letters are something a little different from Zed in the Clouds, an artist who is regrettably underrepresented in Natural Adventures. I have many photographs of his work in my archives, but not a lot have been posted, which is a situation I will try to remedy (it might have to wait until my retirement).

Painted alongside his friend Wxttsart (Milk) and in a similar colour scheme, Zed in the Clouds has shaped some monolithic letters, which, with the orange and red border, have a volcanic feel to them. He has added the words ‘sexy typographic creationz’ above the piece, which makes me think he is rather pleased with this piece of writing, and so he should be. It is certainly something a bit different from the artist.

Correction: I have since found out, from Zed in the Clouds, that this character was actually painted by his friend Morph. The writing by Zed was actually to the left of the character. We all make mistakes.

I am utterly baffled that this is only the second piece by Zed in the Clouds that I have published on Natural Adventures, which is in no way representative of the number of pictures I have taken of his work, nor the quality of it. I can’t think why he has been squeezed out, and I will definitely have to do something about the situation.

This is a nice clean cartoon character piece featuring a young man in a relaxed meditation pose, wearing what looks like a helmet with a pink visor. I like the simplicity of the piece, but also the attention to detail, such as the creases on his t-shirt accompanied by subtle darker shading. Watch this space for more from Zed in the Clouds.

3599. Greenbank (3)

Another new artists for Natural Adventures in 2021 is Zed in the Clouds. Zed has been busy in recent months painting his small character pieces in most of the popular Bristol graff spots, and this one is on the long hoarding alongside the development at Greenbank.

Zed in the Clouds (a great name by the way) creates these expertly finished little cap-wearing characters that tend to blend well with all that is around them. Take a close look though, and you will see that this isn’t simple character tagging, there is a lot of skill and care that has gone into the fills and his lines are crisp and even. Lots more to come from this relative newcomer in Bristol.
