42. North Street, Aldi car park

During this year’s Upfest 2015, arguably the premium wall was handed to Argentinian artist Martin Ron. This enormous mural is a picture of his girlfriend, her torso emerging from what looks like a tablecloth. I am very fond of the fish, but am not sure what it symbolises.

This mural has been painted over an earlier Upfest (2011) mural by German artist duo Herakut. You can see what it looked like in this post from zaqwsxcderfvbgtyhn.

As always, these things are ephemeral, and I’m sure that this mural will itself be over-painted in due course.

I am Stephen. I live in Bristol, UK. I decided to shorten my profile...to this: Wildlife, haiku, travel, streetart, psychogeography and my family. Not necessarily in that order.

  1. I kinda like the idea of a mural being painted over ever so many years, maybe to not only remind us life is ephemeral, but to celebrate that is. I have commented to others before that festivals should last only 3 to 5 years because they tend to become stale with repetition. Like the last quote by Camus, it is not the work of art that is more important rather the ordeal creating demands and the opportunities it creates.

  2. Thanks Stephen, another great mural – agree about the fish haha, although I like it too. Love the look in her eyes as well. And yes I can imagine this must be one of the best sites as you said; I like to think of people getting into their cars after doing the shop and looking up at this.
