  1. I put a new pond into my back garden last Autumn and it is has since filled nicely with rain water but I have no idea where to get things like pond snails and small life forms from, any ideas at all ?

    1. Most of the insects will fly in as adults. Snails is a mysterious one. I believe their eggs get transported on birds feet or on mammal fur. Often these things are ‘imported’ on aquatic plants from garden centres. Brilliant how an inert pond can become an ecosystem in such a very short space of time.

    2. To answer your question properly, now that I have read it properly, if you just grab some pond weed from someone else’s pond most of the life forms you seek will be hidden in the weed.
