One of the nice things about pausing and going back through archives is that it gives me a chance to post those pieces I had always intended to, but never quite got round to doing. This fun spray can character piece by 3F Fino is one of those.

This piece in Mina road spent much of its time being obscured by all sorts of shop paraphernalia and rarely saw the light of day, however, I got lucky and managed to capture it when it was partially exposed. The character, with a nozzle for a head, is standing in a pile of what look like banana caps. I felt, that this was a piece that demonstrated 3F Fino’s development really well, and he did a great job on the fabric shadows and textures, and the same with the shapes and orientations of the caps. A really good piece from the artist, who appears to have stopped painting in Bristol (although I saw a piece by him last week). Time for a gallery? I think so.

The whole of the M32 spot has become really untidy lately, and the flyposters have been very busy covering every surface with irritating posters. I never thought I’d say it, but I reckon the whole place could do with a bloody good buffing, tidy up and starting over again. Bogat has managed to find some space on this column to paint one of his trademark faces.

Although relatively simple in design, Bogat’s work is captivating and packs a punch, and he has a look and feel that is quite unique in Bristol. I particularly like the red cap, which reminds me of my own personal super-hero Jacques Cousteau, who was rarely seen without one. A nice column piece from Bogat.

Since his first tentative appearance in Dean Lane a year ago, Ceus has become something of a regular, who clearly likes to paint in Dean Lane, and on this curved wall in particular. His compositions usually feature his letters CEUS and wings, and this one has both.

The letters almost appear as if they are translucent, with the background pattern seeping through into the the word. Very cleverly done. Above, two caps are held aloft by angelic wings, spraying colour into the piece. This is a creative and imaginative piece from the Spanish writer.

3009. M32 roundabout J3 (221)

Whilst trying to report back on the big Poland v Spain paint jam on the M32 at the end of May, I am desperately trying to play catch up, because this entire wall has since been re-painted. I am now itching to post the new pieces, but must be patient and diligent. This piece is by Cort (Pad) and was painted next to friend and compatriot Laic217.

Cort is one of the more unusual writers in Bristol, with a very distinctive style. I would say that the closest in style is probably Corupt in that their letter shapes are unconventional. I rather like the spray cap on the right squirting out the letters, this is a common theme used in graffiti writing, often with a little character doing the spraying.

2633. St Werburghs tunnel (119)

Another interesting piece from Lobe, who really seems to have picked up the pace during the second half of 2019. Her stylised portraits are becoming more dynamic and expressive, but the same basic ingredients of strong lines and bold colours remains.

I am really struggling with the light quality in St Werburghs tunnel at the moment with most of my images lokig rather washed out and yellow. This washed out look is somewhat exacerbated when artists paint in yellow colours, because there is little I can do by way of adjusting the colours to make them more representative of what they actually look like. What I am really saying is sorry about the poor colour quality of these images.

I’m on a bit of a Lobe fest at the moment, and this magnificent piece was actually the first of hers that I actually became aware of. It was tucked away on the St Agnes side of the M32 roundaboutand really stood out from the crowd.

Once more, her careful use of colours and clever design create what looks at first sight  like a simple portrait, but on closer inspection is full of complexity and sophistication. I’m sure that as she works more and more her execution will tighten up, and I am so looking forward to what the next few months will bring from this artist.

1344. The Bearpit (123)

Once again I have been doing a little bit of cleaning up of my archives, and I came across this rather unusual Kid Crayon piece from Kid Crayon last July. I am finding that Bristol art from July is often under-represented in my posts, because they get hijacked by Upfest and will remain unshared and unloved in my July folder.

This piece reminds me very much of the wheatpastes he used to do and which I used to take great pleasure in hunting down when I first became interested in all this malarkey. A classic Kid Crayon work.
