I am off to London today to watch the Premier League champions, Arsenal, play Everton, and so had to write today’s posts last night. This is a wonderful piece by Effe at the Bristol Mural Collective Lucky Lane paint jam in September.

Effe has painted some colourful cubes, like children’s letter blocks and the letters exposed spell out ‘lucky Effe’. The piece is painted on a recessed shutter and Effe has decorated the recessed walls as well as the shutter, which is a great creative addition to the piece. This paint jam seems to have been a huge success with some really nice and refreshingly unusual pieces.

An unusual collaboration recently appeared on the curved wall in Dean Lane. While I am familiar with one of the artists, EFFE, I have not come across Neens before. UPDATE – Neens is in fact Nina Raines (of course it is, I am such an idiot sometimes) and Nina tells me that the Banana is by an artist called Ailish. I have a feeling that these pieces might have been part of a Bristol Mural Collective paint jam, because there were a few other pieces nearby by artists I couldn’t recognise. Neens has painted an orange – not something I have seen as main subject of street art before, and Ailish the banana. It feels like a piece by an artist more at home in the studio, but is a great idea and lots of fun.

The piece on the right by Effe is one that has all the hallmarks of a tattoo artist – clean clear design, with each element defined and separate. The eagle figure is nicely presented on the black background and the artist’s letters EFFE appear in the orange shapes at the bottom of the feathers. A lovely illustration.

This is another piece that I have pulled out of my archive, which I photographed back in June this year. It is a rather charming piece by Effe, an artict I know little about other than that they are primarily a tattooo artist.

This piece definitely reflects a tattoo art style, a clear emblem, in this case a bird with a flower in its beak, and a piece that feels like it is an outline that has been coloured in. There is a tremendous cross-over between street art and tattoo art, with many practicing tattooists painting the sreets of Bristol. I look forward to finding more pieces by Effe.
