In a quiet backwater in Bedminster not far from Dean Lane, is this wonderful new piece from Pelmo, an artist better known for his studies of outsized people doing everyday things like riding bicycles. This pencil piece comes as something of a surprise, but clearly shows what a great artist Pelmo is.

I love artists who turn the ordinary into the extraordinary with their work, and this outstanding study of an eraser on the end of a pencil is so full of interest and movement. Pelmo has captured a moment in time that is so familiar to all of us, and yet something we probably never give a second thought to. Superbly sprayed, this beauty is a highlight of the year so far.

There are little gifts out there, left behind by artists, all that’s left to do is get out there and find them. Part of my love of photographing and writing about street art is making little discoveries and opening my eyes and looking, not simply seeing. I have been down this lane a couple of times and it is off the beaten track a bit, but my most recent visit was well rewarded with this fabulous saxophone-playing seagull by Sean Sepr. How brilliant is that?

Painted on a clean wall and captured on a gorgeous day, this piece screams out happiness and a carefree feeling, something that has been difficult to find over the last year. For a few moments I was absorbed by this outstanding and humorous piece from Sepr, and allowed to forget about other matters. I have no idea how old this piece is, but it looked pretty fresh to me.

I often talk about how lazy I am in these posts, and I am not proud of it at all, and a fine demonstration of my condition is that I took these pictures from my car without even bothering to get out. Shame on me.

It is another fabulous rabbit from Nevergiveup or NGU or #followmyrabbits or whatever else you want to call him. Now resident in Bath, the artist still pops over to Bristol from time to time, so there is still a constant flow of new material to hunt down. The fine designs on these rabbits is getting ever more intricate, which will be a great mechanism for dating them in the future.

It is impossible for me not to be utterly enchanted by Pelmo’s work. These unusual cartoon scenes have a touching element to them and the stories that unfold are witty and caring. In this piece a cyclist (with enormous thighs) in a pedalo swan is towing an unfeasibly large waterskier whose lifejacket is clinging on for dear life.

The piece is in a little back lane in Bedminster that I never even knew existed and suits this wall perfectly. I am guessing that Pelmo must use brushes as well as spray paint, because the fine detail of the piece would simply not be possible using cans alone. An absolute winner.
