I don’t quite remember exactly the name of the road that this stunning Feoflip piece is in, but it is in Bedminster off East Street I think. Just one of the amazing legacy of works left behind by the artist during and after Upfest 2016. I like everything about this artist – his style and soft colour choices, his attention to finding the right spot and his adventurous spirit.
This Picassoesque face in grey shades on the mustard yellow background works perfectly on the red brick wall. Feoflip seems to have developed a technique that generates splatty thin lines that create the detail in his work and give it a really interesting texture. Unlike any other artist I have seen, Feoflip’s unique style works really well for me. I do hope he returns to Bristol before too long.
I think that my favourite festival artist at Upfest 2016 was this gentleman, Feoflip. I managed to catch him working on his ‘official’ piece although never saw it completed, which is a real pity and possibly the reason I never posted this before.
The reason I liked him so much was probably down to the unofficial ‘extras’ that he painted during his stay all over the city. The style is so different from anything we are used to seeing and he truly entered into the spirit of the Bristol street art scene. I would love to see him return and bless us with more of his outstanding work. Some of the pieces he painted are shown below:
Just a quick one that I have been meaning to post for ever – since Upfest last year in fact. This is a small piece by the imaginative and creative Feoflip, who was in my view one of the highlights of Upfest 2016.
This is a plug socket brought to life and animated, looking almost like a little dog. It is a 2-pin socket betraying the continental background of the artist. This utility box has since been sprayed green…and had a little Upfest 2017 treatment!
I was on the hunt for a new spot in Bedminster, wandering around an area I am not so familiar with, and would you believe it? I came across this fabulous Feoflip piece in the charmingly named Little Paradise.
This must have been yet another of his little surprises left behind for Bristolians to enjoy from last year’s Upfest. His work is just amazing, and this is a perfect example from him. What is amazing is that several other Bristol graff spotters also found this piece recently, even though it has been here for some time. Scarily, we obviously walk the same routes. I sometimes wonder if I have a doppelganger.
Of all the artists to visit Bristol for Upfest 2016, Feoflip probably had the greatest overall impact on the city. Not only did he create a beautiful piece for the festival, but he produced a further seven or eight pieces dotted around the city, many of which are still there.
A truly talented artist and one who seems to know his own mind, he creates scenes that appear to be part mechanical and part organic, and his style appears to draw on artists such as Max Ernst and others of the period.
This piece appears to be a bulldog, but look carefully and it is created from an old boogie box, and the dog is wearing a sport helmet (American football?) The whole thing is quirky and peculiar. The piece is enhanced, in my view, by being sprayed in single grey tones on a blue background. One of the best pieces in Bristol at the moment.
His return for Upfest 2017 would be the best thing…I’ll keep my fingers and everything else crossed.
You have to hand it to Feoflip, the wall space he covered during his trip over to Bristol for Upfest 2016 was extraordinary. I am not too sure how long he spent in the city, but he must have spent much of it spraying.
This is just another example of his fantastic work. Subtle gentle colours, picassoesque portraiture, perfect location and framing. Feoflip is a master, and I sincerely hope he visits us again soon.
I like the way he has incorporated the window panels into his design, and that the shirt has a quilt-like property, each panel with a different design, but the whole thing working together. I can’t get enough of this visitor’s talents.
This is a cheeky little ‘left-over’ from Upfest 2016 by Feoflip when he was in town in July. He has playfully animated a plug and wire, giving it a little personality. He sprayed several of these around the place, and I will try to post about them all. This one is on the wooden panels that create a terraced lawn (a bit of a fancy word for some grass) on the northern side of The Bearpit.
You can tell that Feoflip is not from these parts – we don’t use plugs like that in the UK, we have much more chunky square-pin jobbies that would look more like bull dogs than this rather cute ‘terrier’.
Well Feoflip really is the man of the moment. Before Upfest 2016 I hadn’t seen any of his work, or if I had, it had passed me by. Now it seems I can’t go anywhere in Bristol without stumbling upon one of his incredible pieces.
This face has something of the Easter Island statues about it, maybe given the Picasso treatment. I think it is a stunning piece, but the colours and shades he uses lends his work to blending in with its surroundings. Rarely do his pieces jump out and grab you by the collar, and many folk will just walk on by oblivious. But if you do happen to stop and take a look, you are in for a real treat. These are beautifully detailed and creatively styalised pieces that would look comfortable in many contemporary art galleries.
I have spent a little while trying to find out more about Feoflip. I don’t tend to spend too much time doing this kind of thing, because before you know it, an hour or two can pass. All I want to know is where he is from, but I have a big fail on that one. Feoflip is an artist whose work I love, and fortunately he left his mark in Bristol in a big way after Upfest this year. His Facebook page provides a little bit of information on this, but you might need to use the translate button.
This subtle piece blends in so well with the frame, it almost feels like it was always there. It appears that I am not the only Bristol street art blogger who has a thing for Feoflip, Cosmo recently posted this excellent review of some of his works…in fact she has beaten me to it with most of them.
I have a whole load more of his pieces to share and will try to post them as soon as I can, but I’m afraid the backlog doesn’t get any smaller…aaaaargh.
This wonderful piece appeared a few days after Upfest had ended, and I guess Feoflip decided to stick around and improve some bare walls. I really love this piece, the soft pastel colours give the piece the look of an illustration. The character looks like it has just walked off the pages of a children’s picture book. I would love to read that story.
Feoflip was unknown to me before Upfest, but I have now seen several of his pieces all over Bristol, and will be sharing them over the coming weeks. He is fast becoming one of my favourite artists. I love the combination of organic and mechanical, it works very well, as with his piece at Ashton Gate School.
The more observant reader may also notice the Gregos mask just to the left of this piece which I wrote about last year.
