Ooh! Creative, imaginative and lots of fun, this wonderful piece from Slakarts down in Cumberland Basin is an elaborate expansion on his regular face template. In this piece, Slakarts is telling much more of a story than simply painting up his mega-tag that we see quite a lot of in the city.

A man, a flower and a dog are the subjects of this lovely piece, and the confidence and boldness ooze out of the wall. Slakarts’ work is typified by the thick outlines and solid fills that present as clean and tidy work. There are some similarities in this work and that of Roo, which is a compliment indeed. More sophisticated stuff from Slakarts to come.
Although it isn’t something that should be too much remarked upon or even overthought, there is a really large contingent of female street artists in Bristol, which probably goes against the stereotype of being the province of young male delinquents (a stereotype that is so misinformed I might add). One of the regular ladies wot paint is Billy, whose colourful murals never disappoint.

This one on the long wall at Greenbank is particularly beautiful and calming. The message is simple and positive, ‘a nice flower in the park’ and the bold shapes and design a pleasant antidote to wildstyle writing or photorealism. This naive style of street art is equally valid and often very powerful in its simplicity and voice. Lovely work from Billy, once again.

Rhododendron bush
although leggy and ancient

I inherited this rhododendron from the previous owner some 28 years ago and it looked tired and leggy even then. It is in the wrong soil and really shouldn’t even be alive, but every year the flowers just seem to get better. This year is the best show ever.

What an absolutely gorgeous piece, and what a lovely way to decorate a corner wall. The work is by Rich T and is exactly the kind of piece that brings light, colour and joy to a grey, dull space. The act of chucking a bit of paint on a wall (albeit extremely skilfully) can raise the spirits of an area.

Rich T specialises in these stylised flower pieces and turns out something that looks amazing and so professional (if you know what I mean). He recently collaborated with Mr Penfold, and there would appear to be some influences incorporated into this piece. A stunner and if you should happen to be passing, well worth stopping by and taking a good look.
