  • In 2020, during lock down, my wife was diagnosed with having Parkinson’s Disease. Of course, it was a huge shock, and we are gently easing ourselves into a life with the disease. Last night I went to my first event for people with PD and their partners/families/carers. It was a brilliantly funny comedy evening with Paul Mayhew-Archer, writer of the Vicar of Dibly, amongst other situation comedies. His honest and intelligent look at PD was brilliantly delivered, and for me at least, removed some of the fear about what lies ahead. I don’t think I would have self-disclosed this through the haiku had I not been to see his comedy show last night. Bravo Paul M-A and all who live with PD.

  • I have never been a fan of Suella Braverman and her far right inflammatory racist rhetoric, but I caught a clip of a debate in the house yesterday in which she offered an insincere and inappropriately pitched ‘tribute’ to Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton and Hove, who will be standing down at the next election.

Suella Braverman seems to have a rather inflated impression of her own capabilities and wit, and came out with this toxic ‘tongue-in-cheek’ drivel, and was all the while appealing to her fellow Tories, smirking and grinning. Caroline Lucas has class, capability, competence and compassion that Braverman could never, ever achieve.

Braverman appears to be interested only in power, driven by hatred (an element of self-loathing I suspect too)

Lucas appears to be interested in justice (social, economic and environmental) and fairness, driven by compassion.

The two are polar opposites.

  • Yesterday I was lucky enough to watch three, at least, fox cubs playing on the far bank of the urban River Frome. I was captivated by them, having first heard them rustling in the undergrowth. I watched on for about ten minutes, wishing that I could share the moment with other passer’s by, but there were none. I had to leave because the dog, bless him, was getting restless. He couldn’t see the fox cubs because the river is bounded by a 4ft high wall. My photographs were a bit fuzzy because I was on full zoom, this is one of the better ones.
