In this piece John D’oh highlights the pleasure and mental health benefits derived by artists from painting on the streets (a very real thing), while commenting on the futility of  Bristol City Council putting those serving community service to work on buffing the walls of popular graffiti spots. A great observation of his own craft and responses to it.

For him: £1.99, man up, 17-in-one, scent – man blue.

For her: £6.99, smile! age gracefully (e.g. don’t age), with smile-more serum, special weight loss and boob increase formula, femme lady, be sexy and be the boss – don’t be bossy, extra virgin oil – don’t be a prude though, use before our other 15 products, promotes luxurious growth, unpaid domestic work 60% more, 12.8% gender pay-gap, scent – botanical inequality.

So there you have it, an articulate and powerful illustration of how we treat different genders as a society, and that there is plenty of headroom to make things better for all. Excellent and heartfelt work from Nina Raines.

In a world filled with terrifying and depressing headlines, it is refreshing to be able to enjoy a moment of lighthearted humour, and this lovely column piece by John D’oh under the M32 is just what the doctor ordered.

How often have we heard that ‘love is just around the corner’? Well, John D’oh takes the saying literally with this two-part stencil. A simple and clever piece that would bring a smile to even the most cold-hearted viewer. Just another piece in a superb ‘gallery’ of John D’oh’s work under the M32 adjacent to Eastville Park.

4012. Princess Street (2), Burnham-on-Sea

John D’oh is an artist whose work I have enjoyed enormously over the years, but I simply don’t see his work all that often as he tends to scatter it around the West of England and often in places I don’t visit often. Well Burnham-on-Sea is a bit of a John D’oh goldmine, so this is the first of several posts of his work from this sleepy town.

This is a typical single-layer stencil from John D’oh that is humorous with strong undertones of seriousness. His work often features political satire, and he is definitely a visual commentator, chronicler and observer of our time. Here though the simple message is illustrated with a mildly macabre scene, and one that many cat owners will be all too familiar with. It was great to find this and several other pieces on my trip to the coast.

2940. M32 Spot (69)

Back in October 2019 I remember seeing this piece from Panskaribas and being rather pleased about it, because it was the first I had seen for several months while the artist had been out of Bristol.

It is a rather weird and wonderful piece which has taken me rather a long time to work out. I think it is a pair of trainers joined together by a single trousered leg… peculiar, yes, but oh so very Panskaribas. I think that since then he has painted a few more pieces about the place, but I have been very neglectful and I’m not sure I have posted any of them. I must rectify that.

2636. St Werburghs tunnel (120)

Having only recently started posting pieces by Slakarts on Natural Adventures, it seems that more of his work is emerging, both on the streets recently and from my rummages in my archives.

This is a magnificent piece in St Werburghs tunnel, full of character and humour, and something of a departure from his usual stylised faces that can be a bit on the sombre side. This is a simply executed cartoon style piece that really stands out. It is a pity that it is so yellow/gold, because those colours seem to get exggerated by the orange lighting in the tunnel. More fun pieces please!

1270. Camden Town van (2)

Following on swiftly from my last post, I have another van from Camden Town, beautifully decorated, this time by Sr.X, a Spanish street artist who now resides in London.

His work reminds me very much of the cartoons created by Glen Baxter. There is a retro feel going on here which is peppered with contemporary references and some quirky dark humour.
