It is rather nice to be picking up a rather gentle drumbeat of pieces by Mesk. I have always been aware of his graffiti writing, but only really sought out his work since I met him in the spring.

This is a rather nicely presented chrome piece in the Deaner with the letters MESK clearly bordered with a strong black line. There is a bit of interference with the chrome piece below, which is a pity…a little bit of background decoration might have overcome that. That being said, this is a nice tidy piece.

I don’t know if I am imagining things, but Mesk appears to have upped his game significantly in recent months, with each piece being classier than the last. Maybe he has always been this amazing and I just haven’t latched on to it, but I have now, and this one in Frome Side is a belter.

His letters are bounded with a strong yellow border which contains coloured fills running in horizontal strips in warm tones running from light to dark to light, creating an almost kaleidoscopic effect. Adding to the overall blast of visual excitement, Mesk has painted a vibrant blue stripy drop shadow, that creates a ‘blockiness’ to the whole piece. Very nice work indeed.

This is one of my favourite spots in Bristol, and is the perfect place for a double (and sometimes triple) collaboration. This time, Mesk has combined his talents with ES3 (an artist I don’t know), set on a sharp yellow background.

Mesk has kept things simple, which is incredibly effective in this case. His overlapping letters cascade from left to right in a slightly decreasing height. The tidy fill in four wavy horizontal bands is all that is needed here, and the solid border/drop shadow does some of the ‘heavy lifting’. A phenomenal piece.

To the right, ES3, who I assume was visiting Bristol, and whose work I am not familiar with, has painted a fun combination piece. A cat character with crazy eyes is painted alongside the letters ES3, which mirrors the fill style of the adjacent Mesk piece, but in red colours. The piece is rounded off with a drop shadow and blue border. Definitely a gratifying find.

Pinning down the names of street artists can be really difficult sometimes. I call Mesk ‘Mesk’, because that is the word he most commonly writes, but his Instagram profile is @lazureness which leaves me with a bit of a dilemma. By which name do I refer to him in my blog posts. I have chosen to use Mesk.

This is a stunner in one of the wall segments at Peel Street Green, which are the perfect dimensions for writers to do their stuff. The letters here are beautifully laid out with an interesting and eye-catching array of colours blending in horizontal strips. These colours contrast neatly with the two-yellows and black lines used on the 3D drop shadow. The writing is set on a pair of blue rectangles, again contrasting with and complementing the letters. A vibrant and enjoyable piece from Mesk, or should that be lazureness?

I have recently met Mesk (@lazureness) a couple of times recently, and he is a lovely chatty bloke. I am sure I have seen his work before, and feel like I have posted it, but it looks like this is the first piece of his that has appeared on Natural Adventures. Furthermore, I am hoping to photograph another oner today, if it is still there and I can park nearby.

I watched as Mesk started this piece off. It is a small spot, but I think he has done a brilliant job with it. Such tidy presentation is assisted by buffing out the wall first with a neutral grey. Great letters, straightforward colours (three horizontal yellows) and a nice deep red and black 3D drop shadow. What’s not to like?

4558. Porto (10)

This is the last in this short sequence of pieces from Porto, but for me they represent a fun departure from the focus on Bristol street art, and make an introduction to the different styles that you can find in different cultures around the world.

The fact that I am sharing this piece with you at all can be attributed to the street art hunter’s philosophy of being guided by curiosity – what lies down that alley…? should I walk just a little bit further…? Had I not followed my instinct, I would never have found this magnificent piece by Mesk in an alleyway off the beaten track. The soft tones in browns and pinks, are a bit of as trademark of this artist, and work really well together. The cartoon-style is also really appealing. I have another couple of pieces by Mesk from this trip and look forward to sharing them with you soon.
