7951. Montpelier Park

It feels like not much has changed in Montpelier Park for a long time, with a very attractive collaboration between j9449j and Lupa dominating the wall. When I returned from my recent holiday I popped up there on the off chance something might have changed. It was worth snooping around, because tucked away in ther far corner was this new portrait piece by Stivs.

I think it would be fair to say that Stivs has been on fire this year, truning out dozens of fabulous portrait pieces and calligraffiti writing all over the place. I am not sure if this portrait is of a particular person, or a figment of his imagination, but it is quite beautiful and given that it is painted entirely in shades of yellow/gold, with black and the odd touch of white shaded highlights, a teriffic feat. A masterpiece from a master artist.

The colours in this piece by j9449j are magnificent and consistent with collaborator Lupa whose piece I featured here a couple of weeks ago. I somehow feel that the letters are readable, it is just that I can’t read them.

The red and blue are such strong prime colours augmented with black, making a bold statement on this wall. No piece by j9449j8s complete without a passing reference to tufts of grass and other organic symbols. A very fine and attractive piece of writing.

7904. Montpelier Park

Lupa, Montpelier Park, Bristol, August 2026

What a lovely piece by Lupa in Montpelier Park. This little oasis in Montpelier has a rather neglected basketball court, a nicely revamped children’s play park, some greenery and this wall. A compact community space surrounded by buildings. The wall, although not a legal graffiti wall is tolerated, and I’m sure rather enjoyed by locals who use the park.

Lupa is a straightforward ‘what you see is what you get’ (WYSIWYG) artist. No frills or pretension just some nicely presented letters and colours. I love her work. The choice of bold colours in this piece works very well, and it stands out, set on the blue bubble background. There is some joy in this piece.

7759. Montpelier Park

Solar, Montpelier Park, Bristol, June 2026

More unusual and compelling graffiti writing from Solar, who is on a great run of form at the moment. This little park in Montpelier, has a wall which can hold 2-3 pieces, and although a little bit out of the way is always worth a look if passing, because it is possible to find the odd gem there. This is one of those.

These anti-style letters in green and brown/orange spell SOLAR, with the ‘R’ following the rise in the bank to the right. The observant among you might notice a second piece by the artist in the top left of the pictures – two for the price of one. This piece is similar to one he painted in Sparke Evans Park and which I featured recently. The ‘S’ having the same characteristic panel on it. More nice work from Solar.

7393. Montpelier Park

Lis, Montpelier Park, Bristol, December 2025

Tucked away in this corner of Montpelier Park is a curious strawberry piece by Lis. It is curious, simply because strawberries aren’t exactly front of mind during the winter. Lis has painted in this spot before, and seems to like its remoteness.

I have noticed that for many artists, there has been a bit of a slowdown during the colder months of the year and Lis would fall into that category, so I was happy to find this quirky piece in Montpelier. The concentric rings around the piece are in keeping with a few of her pieces and may represent a ‘black hole’ into another place.

Butch, Montpelier Park, Bristol, December 2025

Tucked away in the corner of Montpelier Park is a wall that is well worth a look every once in a while. At the moment, it is occupied by Butch alongside some graffiti writing by Beer.

I have always said that there is something about the letter shapes and the way that Butch overlaps them that I find most attractive, I can’t put my finger on it, but it works for me. The letters are filled with horizontal layers of blue tones and a royal blue drop shadow. Somehow this blue aggregation works really well against the predominantly red noisy graffiti background, which isn’t always the case when painting messy walls. A nice way for Butch to round off 2025.

7197. Montpelier Park

Lis, Montpelier Park, Bristol, September 2025

I was lucky enough to meet Lis for the first time this week while she was painting with Weas(el) on the M32 roundabout. Of course, I immediately recognised her work and introduced myself. Lis gave me a great big hug, which was very sweet and kind. I guess that what I write here on the pages of Natural Adventures can land well with the artists themselves, which gives me a warm glow. We chatted for a while and I told her how much I admired her work and have been enjoying her journey as a street artist.

In this piece she has reverted to her ‘sure thing’ mushroom design, which is now more confidently presented than some of her earlier ‘shrooms (see below), and more in keeping with using spray paint. I love the swirly designs on the cap, and the gills are nicely represented. Looking forward to lots more from Lis.

I don’t visit Montpelier Park all that often, but every time I do go, there seems to be new stuff there, so maybe I ought to increase the frequency of my trips so that I don’t miss out on beauties like this one from Stivs.

Stivs is something of an enigma. His work is so varied, he is unbelievably talented, and you never really quite know what he is going to come up with next. He used to be heavy on the calligraffiti, but these days he is painting more of these portrait pieces. This one is a real stunner, and drifting ever-closer to photorealism. I am very much enjoying the ride.

6893. Montpelier Park

Nice One, Montpelier Park, Bristol, April 2025

Oof. This is a beauty from Nice One, probably the most original and exciting artist to have come onto my radar in the last year or so. Before I started recording his work, I suspect I missed a whole ton of his pieces, which is deeply regrettable.

This is a superb skull piece painted in his sketchy style and accompanied by a hint of his NICE letters at the bottom of the piece. There is so much depth and texture in this piece, and the hatching gives it that sketchbook quality. I need to catch up with the artist again, it has been a while, as I have a whole load of questions to ask him about his work. Great stuff.

6545. Montpelier Park

Endz, Montpelier Park, Bristol, November 2024

I was lucky enough to bump into Endz just as he was finishing this piece off, and unfortunately for him, I delayed the completion by about twenty minutes, but we had a fun chat. I had to confess that I hadn’t seen any of his Endz pieces, or that if I had, they were deeply buried in my archives.

This is a large piece, larger than it might appear on a screen. The colourful letters spell ENDZ and have a fairly loose feel about them. The pastel shades are bound within a red border and feel bright, even on a dreary day, thanks to the white background. This is certainly an unusual piece of writing which suits the location really well.
