Although Rtiiika has moved away from Bristol for the time being, her work remains very much in our memories. It was a pleasure reacquainting myself with these pictures of a piece that she painted in Leonard Lane back in May 2022. Many pieces that were painted in May were bumped because of Upfest, which always impacts on the number of posts I can write. This moment of reflection at the start of 2023 has enabled me to share some great pieces that got left behind.

Rtiiika’s work is pretty much unique in Bristol, although this piece leans heavily on the cubists and artists like Picasso. It is an absolute beauty of a musician playing a cello or double-bass. The musician is female, as denoted by the ‘W’ representing breasts, a motif that Rtiiika has used in her work before. This is a really classy piece and I do hope that she decides to return to Bristol.

1222. Dighton Street (3)

There are two small spots at the end of Dighton Street which appear to get a new lick of paint roughly annually. Two years ago there were two musicians by Sepr and last year there were two pieces of wildstyle writing by Deamze. Now it seems the rotation continues between these two ASK members with the emergence of another two musicians by Sepr.

On the right there is a trumpeting gentleman. Sepr betrays his long love for music with these pieces and conveys not only the interesting stylised characters but a sense of the music too.

The piece on the left is a lady violinist (or is it a viola?). Unfortunately, even though these were only a few days old by the time I got to photograph them, the taggers had been at work. Kind of annoying really. I continue to love Sepr’s work.

1000. Moon Street (36)

I am confused. Some time ago I was told that Skor85 is a female artist, however I read in the Upfest biography that Skor85 is referred to as he. I will avoid any further gender designation until I am absolutely certain.

This is an old piece from back in January on the wall of the Lakota in Moon Street. The work is typically understated although it comes to life with the cleverly drawn outlines interrupted with zig-zags. I do like the work on Skor85 more of which you can see on this Facebook page.

334. North Street, 188

This is an absolute gem recently stenciled on a rather obliging white wall by one of Bristol’s finest street artists, Stewy. What make this piece extra special for me is that it is a picture of one of my favourite musicians, Robert Wyatt, whose version of ‘ship building’ is in my top ten personal hit list.

Stewy, when he is not stenciling animals, is creating images of well known people. Other works I have posted on include Cary Grant and DJ Derek. I love his work and was really excited to come across this one. I knew he had done it, but just didn’t know where. I expect It’ll get loads of attention at Upfest 2016.
