Noise has been one of the most regular Bristol writers in 2024, turning out numerous distinctive fat-letter pieces all over town. This is a particularly nice one on the curved wall in Dean Lane. The letters spelling out NOISE, although in darker colours with a dark background, are bursting with energy. The two tones of green work surprisingly well with the dark purple/black backdrop. Although I am sure it is unintentional, the ‘i’ resembles a nose, and weirdly if you take the ‘i’ out of noise, you get nose. Having seen the nose, you can’t unsee it. Nice one from Noise.

Last year, Maybe sprayed a piece that was all about hay fever, and the fact that this recent piece under Brunel Way is not dissimilar, leads me to believe that Maybe might be a pollen sufferer at this time of year. The main difference between the pieces is that this one is a little more direct and graphic in its content.

Those of a fragile disposition should look away, as the character in the piece has her finger deeply inserted into her nostril, while green bogey faces (I am guessing) look on from the sidelines. The piece is nicely painted, creative and a little bit edgy in a schoolboy humour kind of way. Maybe certainly keeps us on our toes with his ideas and unique style.

It seems that everywhere I look in Bristol I am coming across new pieces by Bristol newcomer Mudra, and a most pleasurable experience it is too. Incoming artists and new artists keep the whole scene nice and fresh and add to the extraordinary diversity of art in the city.

When I first spotted this one in Dean Lane, I wasn’t too sure who it was by, and guessed it must be from a visiting artist, but then I saw the @ with a hat signature and the penny dropped that this was so obviously a Mudra piece. I guess the letters spelling Mudra and the signature ‘Mudra’ ought to have indicated who the artist was, but it is all about familiarity and context. The piece has some lovely colour combinations and unusual letter shapes. I reckon this would have made a superb 1970s album cover, it has that kind of feel about it. Great work and so much more to share with you.

Well another weird and wonderful creation from Stupid Stupid Meathole this time on the M32 roundabout. This piece is similar to one he sprayed in Dean Lane but somehow looks a little better in this environment…maybe it is the wall itself that helps it to stand out.

I like his work very much, even if it is a little peculiar. There is some good humour underlying the grotesque nature, but most of all it is utterly unlike anything else on the Bristol scene at the moment. Original work.
