You know it is going to be a good day when you find an Andy Council piece. When it happens, it is like one of those ‘my work is done here’ moments, if that makes sense. Andy council has had a comparatively quiet summer on the streets, so finding new and recent pieces has been something of a treat.

This wall is not the easiest to photograph, and before I had the capability to photograph with a wide angle, this piece would have presented me with a bit of a headache, and even with a wide angle aspect, it is still a little awkward. This panther (?) piece is the second animal to be painted by Andy Council on this wall recently (I will post the other one soon) and is styled in his extraordinary component composition. Each element of the creature is made up from bits of grating and pipe work, and other bits that look like they have come from a scrap heap, but combined, they make stunning whole. Beautiful and creative, this is a magnificent piece from Andy Council.

4045. Brunel Way (129)

The Spanish HMR crew hit the support wall under Brunel Way a week or two back and this amazing black panther portrait from Dabuten Tronko was the centrepiece, flanked by a pair of writers on each side.

Dabuten Tronko’s character pieces set a really high standard in Bristol, and although he doesn’t paint all that often, when he does it is nearly always a beauty like this one. It is interesting to see how he has left the writing above the panther intact painting the red light around the back of the letters. A nice touch. This is yet another fine piece from the artist and makes me think that perhaps it is time for a gallery of his work.

4010. Sparke Evans Park (15)

I haven’t had an awful lot of luck photographing this wall, it is not an easy one to do. The best time I guess for photography is in the middle of an overcast day, any other time it is too dark, or there are multiple shadows cast by a row of trees. These pictures were taken in the early evening, but as you can see the quality of light was poor.

Excuses over. This is a magnificent panther piece by Sikoh, painted as part of the Nightwayss birthday paint jam. Sikoh is a member of the PWA crew alongside Face 1st, Soap and Nightwayss, but doesn’t paint nearly as frequently as the rest of them, which is regrettable, because his work is out of the top drawer. There is so much to admire in this piece, but I think the thing I like the most is the incredibly detailed little skulls that make up the leopard’s spots. How does he do that? Simply brilliant.

2433. Upfest 2018 (155)

I do like pieces that are black and white with one additional colour, there is something about them that helps to focus the eye and grab the attention. Such a piece can be fussy without being confusing. This Upfest 2018 piece by Wietse is a great example of this colour genre.

The globe-trotting artist was born in Bruges, Belgium is inspired by History, nature and travelling. Here he has painted (with brushes) a unicorn being attached, I think, by what looks like a pair of panthers. It is the kind of scene that would lend itself very nicely to illustrate the politics of the UK right now. It is in your face, beautiful, savage and feels like quite an outspoken piece. Whatever the narrative, I do rather like it.
