Two things immediately leap out at me about this piece by Posh; first, I am always happy to find ANY pieces by him, because he paints quite infrequently (although he has been more active lately), and second, I have never seen his work at L Dub before, so was mildly confused and surprised to see it there.

This is a combination piece in which Posh has incorporated his little ‘posh’ characters into his letters. I can’t work out what the letters spell, and a glance at his Instagram doesn’t help me with that particular piece of detective work.  His little monocled figures are so full of character, mischief and fun and are an endearing element of his work. Looking out for more great work from Posh.

There was a fabulous turnout for Hypo’s birthday paint jam a little way back, and one of the highlights for me was this small piece by occasional artist Posh. By occasional, I mean that he doesn’t paint the streets all that often, which is a real pity, because his work is refreshingly different.

Posh has painted a collection of curious characters who seem to be having a fun time. I think the monocles and top hats are part of the whole posh thing. Is that a cake the girl is holding? And who is the dude in the aeroplane?  There is lots happening in this busy sketch piece. Looking forward to seeing more from Posh.

Over the years, I may have photographed a handful of pieces by Posh, but I think it is only recently that I have started posting them. I think that I might be able to retrieve one or two from my archives, as and when I find them. This interesting piece was painted as part of the Space Jam film paint jam, prompted by World Wall Stylers, although, apart from some of the colours used, I don’t see much of a link between this piece and the movie.

I am not able to decipher the letters, but they are wonderfully painted and quite unusual in their irregular construction. It is the monocled characters that are the trademark of Posh’s work, though, complete with well groomed moustaches and top hat. I think that I could really get into Posh’s work, particularly if I found it more often. Something a little different to enjoy.

Merny manages to turn his pieces out quite regularly these days, and some last longer than others, but overall his presence and ‘brand’ in Bristol is constantly growing. This is an artist who never shies away from bold political statements and has become an important street commentator on the pressures and divides in our country. “F*ck being posh” is a clear illustration of the resentment of the gap between rich and poor getting ever more prominent under 12 years of Tory Government.

Merny’s work, although naive in style, is full of narrative, movement and interest. It is impossible to walk past his work and not pay attention. Alongside John D’oh, Merny reminds us about the political landscape in which we live. A great piece of social commentary art.
