4277. Dean Lane skate park (469)

I have a feeling that Tuco would approve of this piece from Veeez, an artist I have been calling Veee, but am in the process of updating. Tuco, another Bristol graffiti writer has a thing for mattresses, and I sense there could be some mattress-envy going on here.

Veeez has been working like a beast, getting his rather special mega-tags embedded all over the city. There is barely a nook or cranny that hasn’t been visited by the artist. He has two or three variants, and in this post he has both the face, as shown on the mattress and his little ‘mushroom’ character below.

I think I will have to start multiple posting his pieces, like I do with Maybe, because otherwise Natural Adventures would be in danger of becoming the Veeez show. It is great to see how quickly and how well the artist has made himself at home.

4211. M32 Spot (131)

The arrival in Bristol of Veee has been most welcome. By arrival I guess I mean that he is visiting the city more frequently and leaving his distinctive mega tags in various spots, including this one at the M32 Spot. He has become something of an honorary resident.

There is a certain charm about his ‘face’ pieces that in their simplicity convey so much more than first meets the eye, and the bold and contrasting colours he has chosen for this one work really well, on an elevation that few people will ever see. Seeing Veee’s pieces over the last few months has certainly brought a smile to my face.

4107. Dean Lane skate park (443)

On the fabulous curved wall at Dean Lane skate park is this nice LRS collaboration featuring Veee and Werm (formerly known as Eman). The centrepiece is the main attraction here, or at least it is the most eye catching and is by Veee.

Veee, from Weston-super-Mare is painting ever more frequently in Bristol, and his trademark characters, of which there are a couple, are appearing across the city. This ‘lion’ character, with symbols for eyes, is rather fun and compelling and impossible not to like.

Werm’s contribution to the collaboration is this quick LRS crew throw up, adopting the block letters that he has been enjoying of late. Two things I don’t understand about Werm… how on Earth does he afford all the paint and how does he have so much time to paint. I don’t expect answers and I don’t really care too much, the key is that he keeps going and keeps improving.

Until earlier this year, I had never come across Veee. His art just wasn’t a thing in Bristol, not that you’d know it now, it seems that there are dozens of his little pieces dotted all around the city, and this is one of the more recent ones from Dean Lane.

This small flat wall is the perfect size for Veee’s work and his ‘face’, made up of symbols, fits the space really well. Bright and colourful, Veee’s work is definitely becoming part of the furniture, and I think that he must have moved to Bristol for there to be so much of it. Watch this space for more from this artist.

4048. Princess Street (3), Burnham-on-Sea

Now I know that this classic piece from John D’oh has been here for a while, but as I only recently visited Burnham-on-Sea for the first time, I have not seen it before, but what a fabulous shutter piece it is. Beautifully executed and witty.

It is a really cleverly constructed pastiche of the work of Lichtenstein, and comes together as such really well. It takes a lot of skill and courage to carry something like this of, but John D’oh has managed it with his customary class. An excellent piece and really worth seeking out if you find yourself in the area.

It is also worth noting the cheeky little Veee character in the left of the shutter in the feature photograph.

4006. St Werburghs tunnel (262)

Although rather small and modest in scope, this little collaboration is very significant in the history of street art in Bristol. Veee, an artist from Weston-super-Mare and Stinkfish joined forces to bomb a couple of walls at the tail end of a trip that Stinkfish had made to the city. A crowd-funded project had brought the artist back to Bristol to tidy up a couple of iconic pieces he painted here some years ago.

I had actually met the artists very briefly as they sprayed a wall in Dean Lane – unfortunately, when I returned a day later their work had been over-painted, so I only have this WIP shot. It was great to meet Stinkfish, in particular, because of his global reputation – he is a street art rock star, no doubt about it.

The St Werburghs piece by Stinkfish is similar to the Dean Lane one, and it is like a mega tag. I wonder how many people know who it is by. It is interesting that Stinkfish would want to spray these little anonymous pieces about the place, but then again, I guess that is all part of the fun of spray-painting. There is another one of these that I will share soon, and of course I have to go and photograph the two renovations too.

Veee seems to be making quite a big noise at the moment, and I know that there will be plenty more pieces from him in Natural Adventures before long.
