There is no question about it, Hemper has found a new level of energy, the likes of which I haven’t seen since around Covid lockdown, when he was pretty busy also. Barely a day goes by when there isn’t a new piece by this exceptionally gifted artist. One of the most notable things about Hemper is that every piece he paints is new and creative, he rarely, if ever, revisits old designs and copies them, each one is utterly unique.

This outstanding piece is like a ‘sampler’ where each letter shows off his astonishing technique and gift for colour, shapes, patterns, design and can control. Spelling out HEMS, the H, E and S all have white accents which provide depth and a 3D effect, whereas the E is much flatter and hugs the wall. There is so much to enjoy in this piece, that it is probably wiser not to describe it, but to let you enjoy it at your leisure. I rarely use the word genius, because it is in my view overused – in this case, however, I believe it to be appropriate.

Beautiful to behold but difficult to photograph is this excellent middle section of a new collaborative wall by Sepr and to its left is a 3Dom piece already posted and to the right a Feek piece yet to be posted.

This is definitely one for the animal lovers, with a character cat, mouse and canary, key components of a cartoon caper. I am not fully clear what the story here is, but the cat seems to be holding a ladder for the canary with a key to its cage resting on its ‘ear’  and a screwdriver which it is using to undo the hinges of the cage door. Meanwhile a mouse has trapped its tail in a cheesy mouse trap.

the red backdrop contains a shelf with a menagerie of small animals in various containers, beautifully painted as a subtle background to the main event. This is a brilliant piece from Sepr which brings to life his illustrative skills and story-telling ability. Great work.

 

 

3074. Cowmead Walk (2)

One of the nicest walls in Bristol has just had a makeover. The whole wall in Cowmead Walk in St Werburghs is quite awkward to photograph, so I have split the collaboration by 3Dom, Sepr and Feek into three separate posts of which this is the first. Painted in deep rich colours, this 3Dom piece is truly outstanding.

3Dom’s character is perched on the edge of a hamster wheel in the corner of a room with some strange pink and green plants growing up from the carpet and a Swiss cheese plant thrown in for good measure. The character is, in 3dom style, a composition of shapes and forms assembled in a surreal way into ‘human’ form. Typically the character’s legs are clad with stripey trousers. The tubes coming out of the cube head have a smiley and a sad face on them, although I’m not sure what this is depicting. There is so much detail in here that you could spend a long time looking at it – feel free to go right ahead. Such quality.

756. Cowmead Walk (1)

This is a fabulous collaborative wall by Deamze (on the left) and Sepr (on the right). I found the wall quite by chance on my wanderings and it is always so rewarding when you come across something as impressive as this. There is also a moment of anguish and doubt that questions your knowledge of the street/graffiti art spots in your patch.

I don’t quite know why I haven’t posted it before. Probably because I have a backlog the size of a small planet and this one just got stuck there for a while.

On the December day that I took these pictures, there was a gentleman with several little dogs that kept running backwards and forwards in front of me. I hope they don’t distract too much. The Deamze wildstyle piece is of the high standard turned out by the artist, and the pink colour selection stands out really well against the green background.

The Sepr end of the piece is an entertaining scene, which looks to be of mice cleaning the component parts of a head. This is a theme I have seen before from Sepr, and he has mastered the stretching out and dissection of the head really well. The shadows add a perspective to the whole piece too.

Although the two halves of the piece do not tell the same story, they are coordinated and complement each other well. Great work from two of Bristol’s finest.
