Thursday doors – 12 May 2022

Doors 183 – Westminster doors

You may recall that I occasionally have team meetings in London. Well, with a return to blended working, occasional has turned into regular monthly meetings, the most recent of which was last Friday. The office is in Westminster, and this time I decided to change my normal route to work from the tube station, to give myself a bit of a doorscursion through some of the more interesting bits of the City of Westminster.

No visit to Westminster is complete without at least a glance at Westminster Abbey, but there are many other notable buildings in the area, and some extraordinary offices and private homes too. I think that this selection shows off some truly magnificent doors that Westminster has to offer. I hope you enjoy these gems.

4416. Picton Lane (13)

I cannot really find the words to express just how good an artist Kosc is. His work seems to get better and better and as he progresses, he keeps raising the bar. Here we have an artist who seems to be at ease with his chosen materials and who creates outstanding work, but continues to push his boundaries.

This amazing piece in Picton Lane has a hint of the Sistine Chapel about it with two outstretched hands making finger contact set against a green leafy backdrop, including shadows cast against it. Kosc enjoys his anatomical pieces and appears to study the shape and form of bodies.

This piece feels like a study, and something that would sit comfortably in an artist’s studio, and is simply amazing to see in its location. Difficult to photograph without a wide-angle lens, but I think you can get a sense of it, and quite weird to think that there is door behind this. A supreme work from Kosc.

Thursday doors – 28 April 2022

Doors 182 – Doors of Montpelier, Bristol

A quick introduction this week – work pressures are as heavy as ever. These doors were photographed on a dog walk a week or so ago, in a nearby area of Bristol called Montpelier (or Montepeculiar by some), famed for the Bohemian lifestyle of its inhabitants, whether accurately or not. I hope you enjoy my little tour of doors in the district.

When I am super-busy, I tend to share doors that I have posted previously on Natural Adventures, under the street art category, and today’s post is one of those. You might have to look quite hard to find the doors in some of these images, but they are there. It is nice to repurpose these pictures and give them a second life. Doors 180 – Some doors from the city of Westminster, Greater London

I work as a civil servant, and my department is based in London, although I report to an office in Bristol. As we emerge into a new normal, my immediate team (four of us, each located in different parts of England) have decided to get together for meetings once a month in London at our main office. The most recent meeting was last Friday, and the walk from Westminster underground station to the department takes me past some rather grand doors. Here are some of them I thought worthy of sharing:

4332. M32 Cycle path (169)

One of the most noticeable things about Bristol street and graffiti art over the past two years has been the sheer volume of new artists either trying their hand at spaying walls or moving to the city famed for its graffiti culture, either way, it all adds to the vast melting pot we are privileged to observe.

This is the first of many pieces, I’m sure, by Bogat to appear on Natural Adventures, but already I have several more lined up and in the archive. I am rather drawn to this style of street art, faces and portraits are always interesting. Bogat is ideally suited to columns and doors, because his work is often vertically drawn out and sometimes bleeds onto the ground. This is a birthday shout-out to his fiend and painting pal Asre (another new artist to Bristol).

This piece is on one of my favourite doors which has hosted many artists – I feel a special post coming up featuring this door. So much more to come from Bogat.

Doors 179 – Doors from the Temple Meads area of Bristol

I managed to take a short trip to some streets I rarely visit over the weekend, and while I was there I took a few door photographs.  The area lies between Temple Meads railway station and St Phillip’s Marsh and is mostly turned over to light industry that must have built up around the station over the years. Much of the area is fairly run down, and there are bridges and tunnels underneath the railway all over the place.

In a moment of freedom last week, I also managed to photograph this rather interesting green door from a row of 1950s houses alongside a dual carriageway in Bristol. I was rather attracted to it and considered it worth sharing with you.
