The work of Face F1st continues to develop and improve. Recently he has moved much more into pastel shades for much of his work, which gives his pieces an unassuming quality. They blend in more with the walls with modesty.

724. Stokes Croft, Metropolis (1)
For a long while now, there have been hoardings outside the Metropolis in Stokes Croft, but this is the first piece I have seen there, since they were erected, worthy of photographing.
I saw the piece being sprayed when I drove past it, but had to return with a camera. What I didn’t know at the time is that it was the elusive Face F1st at work. So now I have seen him, and I know he has a beard, but that is about it.
This time there is no FACE lettering, instead an octopus (something he has sprayed before) and a face emerging from the centre of the piece. It is certainly quite unusual, and the colours give it a rather understated appearance but it is a good piece and a slight extension of Face F1st’s usual format.
679. Moon Street (25)
Face F1st seems to have upped his game recently, producing pieces all over the city, and continuing to develop his style. Together with Laic217, he seems to be ‘in the groove’ at the moment.
This piece is on a famous wall with pieces from several Bristol artists on it including a piece by Mr Sleven (the three-eyed characters). I really like this piece by Face F1st, it feels like more time and effort has gone into its production and the face is simple and also wonderfully expressive.
I have more pieces by Face F1st in my pending folders, but I think this is the best so far.
670. St Werburghs tunnel (9)
Face F1st has been rather busy lately, and I am struggling to keep up with posting all his new works. This is a nice piece from St Werburghs tunnel, but as with all of the tunnel pieces, the photographs just don’t do the work justice.
I couldn’t quite get the shots I wanted of this piece, because there was some kind of a photoshoot going on in the tunnel, and someone had parked a car in the way. The colours are really great, and the characteristic face is nicely folded into the C of FACE. I still get a bit of a kick out of finding a Face F1st piece.
638. Ashley Road (12)
This is one of the spots that is favoured by Face F1st, he does a lot of pieced on this hoarding, and on the Carriageworks just around the corner. Any regular reader of my posts will know just how much I enjoy Face F1st’s work. It is frustrating, however that I know so little about this artist. I guess I’ll have to be out there and find him spraying sometime.
As we so often see, Face F1st has used great combinations of colours which he tends to use a lot, golds and lilacs. He has tagged this with his crew PWA.
561. Ashley Road (10)
Although Face F1st’s work is, on first viewing, not as spectacular or striking as some of the other local street artists, there is something very cultured and empathetic about his work. The familiar technique of incorporating a girl’s portrait into the word ‘face’ combined with the soft colour schemes marks out Face F1st’s pieces as something rather special.
514. Stokes Croft, the Carriageworks (20)
It is not so long ago that I posted a piece by Face F1st, which was in the same place as this one, although this face predates the other. Aaargh! the confusion and disruption of archiving. There is simply too much Bristol street/graffiti art to post in a nice logical sequence. When I go out to take pictures, I might get a dozen or more new pieces. These will be additional to the hundreds I have not yet published. I only get enough time to write about one piece a day, so I have a dilemma…do I publish the most recent piece or just post in a rather more organic way. I have opted for the latter, which is why this older piece by Face F1st has been published after the more recent one. An over-long explanation I fear.
494. Stokes Croft, the Carriageworks (19)
This is a small piece by the wonderful Bristol street artist Face F1st whose works are always centered on a styalised face each one with a different decorative feature. In this one he has placed a small octopus on the face’s head. This is a political anti-Brexit piece which is articulated clearly, and the octopus represents the Brexit narrative ‘brainwashing’, which appears to be stifling any intellectual debate about what kind of Brexit British citizens might want (in particular the 48% who voted against).

Regular readers of this blog will know that I have a real soft spot for Face F1st. I will always try to post his works as soon as I can after I have spotted them, although it is not always possible with such a huge backlog of street art.
This is a slightly unusual Face F1st piece. Sure, the soft colours are there and the FACE letters and the swirling hair, but the expression on the girl’s face is something new altogether. I’m not sure if I like it as much as the softer faces, but it is certainly striking. Good to see more work from the Face.
260. Ashley Road (7)
I can keep this relatively short and sweet. The practice hoardings at the Stokes Croft end of Ashley Road tend to have one of the highest turnovers of graffiti art in Bristol. Because of this it is easy to miss new pieces before they are over-painted, but sometimes, if you get the timing right, you will see a beauty like this.
It is no secret that I am a big fan of Face F1st, and this is my favourite to date. I really love the the way that PWA (Pirate Wall Art) is incorporated into the hair decoration. The designs in the lettering are becoming more elaborate too.
It sounds patronising, and certainly isn’t meant to, but I find this piece really charming. Just beautiful.
