6910. Dean Lane skate park (829)

I have always struggled with artist naming conventions on Natural Adventures. Most artists have a name and retain it as their brand, especially old school artists like Inkie, Nick Walker, Mr Penfold, Banksy, Cheba and so on. Their Instagram accounts reflect their name – easy-peasy.

However, an awful lot of artists, graffiti writers in particular, may write a word, or sign a piece that is totally different from their Instagram name, for example: Jee See (who writes Seismic and whose Instagram is @jee.see_t.daemonic_luke.solo) or Biers (who currently writes WD40 and whose Instagram is @nofrills40). So you can see that naming artists can be a tricky thing – I blame the hacking of social media accounts, which means people are frequently changing their digital account names.

I say all of this because when I first came across Bbygwya (and it took me ages to master the name), this was her then Instagram account, however, she writes variants of the word Flux, and her current Instagram is @livelaugh_luxe. What is a man to do? The name of an artist is important for me, because it forms part of the tagging and sorting on WordPress which allows me to find past posts and images. So generally I use the first name that I came across and stick with it, even if it seems to be the wrong name now. Did any of that make sense?

This is a real beauty by Bbygwya (Flux or Luxe – see the problem?) in Dean Lane, with plain white letters and a little bit of black detail sitting on top of a fabulous Conrico piece, featured here previously. Somehow, Bbygwya has skilfully blended her piece with Conrico’s, intentionally or otherwise, but the final look is a good one.

It feels like the RBF crew have got of to a great early start this year – it must be the birthday paint jams. Bbygwa joined in the celebrations for Desi and Even in Sparke Evans Park with this lovely combination piece.

The theme for the paint jam was Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation studio, so I am guessing that Bbygwa’s character is somehow connected to that. Her letters spell LUXE, (a corruption of FLUX – her moniker). The letters are beautifully presented, but alas, contain too much brown for my liking (regular readers will know that I am not a fan of brown in graffiti writing). Almost time for a gallery of her work – she’s in the pipeline.

As someone who photographs and writes about street and graffiti art, it can be quite a challenge keeping up with Instagram monikers and even the letters that artists write. Bbygwya, AKA Flux, writes Flux. Luxe and in this instance Lukz and you have to know her style and range of letters to be able to identify her work successfully.

This piece was painted under the M32, alongside the River Frome early this month, and might signal a healthy presence from her and the RBF crew, who have all had a pretty busy January. Her letters have that unruly feel to them, being slightly irregular. The fills are nicely done and capped off with a couple of brilliant starbursts. Like other pieces painted during this session, there is some rain damage, which suggests that it was a wet paint day. There is a nice final touch… the shout out to Mena.

There have been many ‘get well’ tribute pieces about the place for Mena, who suffered a motorcycle accident (I think) while travelling in Thailand a while back, and this one in Cumberland Basin by Bbygwya, or Flux as she is more commonly known is an absolute beauty.

Bbygwya is something of an enigma who can produce some really high quality pieces in varying styles, but is also rather fond of quick and dirty throw-ups. I particularly like the horizontal fills in this piece and how they give the whole thing the appearance of shiny metal, by design or accidentally. A nice shout out of ‘We love you’ rounds the whole thing off nicely.

This is another wonderful piece from the RBF Halloween paint jam at Sparke Evans Park, and is by Bbygwya, probably better known as Flux, the letters (or variations of them) that she writes. This is a masterful composition, very pleasing on the eye, with each element of the piece excellently executed. If only my slightly misty images did the piece justice.

The letters spelling FLXE or FLuXE or as Paul H rightly points out LUXE are beautifully filled with an orange/red oily-bubbly effect, and the white 3D drop shadow is nicely worked into the piece. The character, looking like a masked villain out of a Scooby-Doo cartoon, is well painted and complements the letters perfectly. Bbygwya, along with her RBF friends, has used the ‘house colours’ for the piece. I would love to have a picture with the whole collaboration, but alas there are large trees in front of the wall, and it is virtually impossible to get the whole stretch in one head-on view.

More from the RBF Barbie extravaganza, this time from Barbie Bbygwya or Barbie Flux, both of which would make brilliant Barbies in my opinion. I can’t help thinking that Bbygwya probably had to work really hard with this piece, because it really isn’t representative of her style. What it does show, however, is that Bbygwya is very talented and versatile.

The letters are big, bold, and have a 3D drop shadow, and the writing really pops out from the wall. I love the words “this Barbie hates cops”, because it makes me laugh. The little egg is an artefact from an RBF Easter paint jam, which has been pimped with a pink flower and pink handbag, all in the Barbie spirit. I really rate this unusual piece from a lovely artist.
